searching for the sound: my life with the grateful dead by phil lesh

by far one of the most engrossing and attention grabbing books i have ever read. phil is a great storyteller and as (me) being a product of the 80's, and now in my early 20's, i have never seen the grateful dead or any later incarnation of but what i do have are countless hours of archived amazingness that reflects the bands collective unconcious, and now augmented with a first person perspective. the experience i have gotten from this book as i listen to the music that is getting talked about from specific eras and shows is nothing short of eye-opening and mindblowing. i feel as if my musical abilities were/are growing stale. with less time to play, more schoolwork and real life stuff piling up, it feels like my music takes a hard hit, but i feel like after reading that im inspired to walk in the footsteps of one of america's greatest treasures. that life is a journey of searching for THE sound. and one day i hope to be able to do so just as phil did in his own way

end rant.

Nice. There's a great Phish book out there too. It's the coffee table book with a lot of pictures but the writing is really interesting. It includes writing and commentary from all the members of the band. Still that's another subject. Having seen the Grateful Dead many times, and remembering exactly where I was when Jerry died, I have to say there are times that I really miss Jerry's sound, and the way he interacted with Phil.

I bought that book for like $10 bucks at the beach and read half of it, it was very interesting but I got distracted by something and never finished it.
