I saw it today. I feel horrible. It's kinda gnarly to actually witness something like this.

Officials Knock Down Mission Beach Fire | NBC San Diego

He lost everything he owned. he had just built a studio and lost all his gear. He was devastated.

There were 13 fire trucks, 2 Hazmat trucks and about 20 police vehicles. I'm still stunned. Just awful.

I hope so. He could barely talk. His family has owned it for about 20-some years, and he took it over a few years back. There were all kinds of rumors floating around from a car exploding to a meth lab blowing up. I highly doubt the meth lab scenario, firemen entered without special suits and no one was ordered back from the scene. From what other witnesses said, the car did blow after the fire had been burning for a while. It literally took over 3 hours to put it out. One of the neighbors in the other unit had to jump from the second floor. Pretty crazy stuff.

The local news just said the loss of the entire property was $1.5 mil.. ouch. Most of the buildings in the area are basically older (beach worn) wooden structures and the SDFD saved the house next door. Those guys were on it today.

I had a house fire happen to me a short few years ago... posted about it here, but I don't feel like digging up the thread. It's a terrible experience.

The house two doors over from ours burned down where we lived about eleven or twelve years ago. It's terrifying, and a huge tragedy for the family. They lost two dogs besides their belongings. Thoughts and prayers for your friend.

My neighbors garage caught fire a few years ago, almost spread to my friends house who lived next door.

The guy was repairing a lawn mower in front of his garage while smoking a cigarette. Some ember dropped from his smoke, caught the mower on fire, which promptly spread to his van in the garage, you know, the one he uses to carry lots of other flammable gas powered equipment in. Caught his garage & van on fire, dropped some power lines into their backyard, hopping and spraying sparks everywhere.
