Well, tomorrow is the big day. First day of senior year. Im pumped. I think Im going to work hard and keep my grades from falling but Im still going to have a lot of fun.
One thing I have noticed, its insanely expensive and I haven't even started it yet!
Senior Pictures, yearbook fee, senior dues, drivers license, road test, cap and gown, school supplies, a couple new clothes, anything during the year, and eventually college.
I'm so glad Im finally done. High school has been really fun and Im sure this year and college will be even better.
Any tips for going into college? I still haven't chose a profession :P

I need a job, but this economy isn't cooperating...

Well, that's what I did...

heres what i would say, because i did not do it at all: visit a lot of campuses. i saw three, and applied to four schools. everyone thought i would go to art school, because of my talents in the visual arts, but i decided i wanted to be a dentist instead. i didnt even look at art schools.
heres part of that decision: i was told dentists have high suicide rates, but im so apathetic that i know i could do the job (again, dentists need visual spacial skills and attention to detail, which is related to art i think), but would never kill myself, because i wouldnt care enough to do it. i also was into cars and wanted to own a dodge viper. isnt that so stupid?
i started in a fast track program where i could get a dds in six years, but dropped out my sophomore year. i then went to community college to bang out random requirements and to figure out what the heck i wanted to do.
sorry for the long story, but if you dont really know what you want to do, some community colleges are also big feeder schools for prestigious universities (at least in ca), and you dont end up wasting money. however, if you can get into a great school in a great location (think about location A LOT), then you still have a year or so to get your goals set.
also, once i got accepted i stopped caring about grades. honestly, it didnt affect anything, but its not the ideal road to go down. send out lots of applications, and think about your personal philosophies, and what kind of difference you want to make in the world, and what sort of company would do that, and what type of degrees that kind of company would hire.
i came full circle to a biology degree again, but now i want to get a phd in something related to genetics and the medical field. i want to grow organs, or help cure genetic diseases. there are many ways to make a difference. it just depends what you are good at and what you are interested in.
again, sorry for the long post. i hope theres at least one helpful sentence in that ramble. |

I had a helluva time my senior year, every other day I was completely done with class by 9:45.
One of the best years of school, sometimes I wish I was back there instead of in college. |

as for senior year: meh. Just another year of high school. I hated high school. Glad to be in college.

Glad to be in college. | yeah, but, while its easier to get into some colleges with some majors, you can go in undeclared... so just spam applications and see what happens. if you want to do it right, you investigate a school based on your major. some random schools are great at some stuff (especially if you want a masters or phd) and some you can get into with a weak major.
my personal advise is to go with science/math/physics/engineering/2nd degree if you want an instant job. or, if you have some unique skill- ie- art/music/computers/website stuff.
i hope i dont offend anyone, but sociology, english, history, political science and stuff like that will not get you a good job. if you want to hit up law school, the latter two will get you there if you get the grades and the lsat scores, but otherwise youre out of luck. maybe a masters in education, or something like that, but im sorry, there are many non-science (aka "soft science") degrees that get you jobs that are in no way related to your major. most of those are just feeder degrees.
if you dont know, just dont get a crap degree. the classes might be easier, but effort in equals good job. you get what you pay for and you get what you put in. |
