Shaving Tips?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm not a very hairy guy and I shave my face maybe once every 2-3 days. Partially because I'm not hairy and partially because every single time I shave - my neck gets very irritated and I get razor bumps . I used to use a Mach 3 - but read online that a razor with more blades spreads the cutting area out and reduces irritation, so I bought a Gillette Fusion Manual. I also read that shaving more frequently reduces irritation. I use sensitive skin shaving gel and use an aftershave lotion every day (even if I didn't shave).

I started shaving every day and my neck still bleeds and breaks out. On the commercials, you see guys shaving against the grain on their neck... is that wrong? Seems like that's the only way to get a close shave!

Tips??

I have to shave every day. If you shave every day, the irritation goes down. And go with the grain, not against it. You can go back later and lightly go against the fur, but not at first.

I have a beard so I only shave my neck about once a week, maybe more. I used to get alot of irritation and I just tinkered around with different gels and foams until I found one that worked. Make sure you wet your face to before hand.

Funny though when I shave now, I just drag the dry razor over my neck and it takes like one minute. no bumps or anything there.

+2.

Shave immediately after you get out of the shower while your face is still wet. The hair will be softer creating less pulling.

good product there. I shave my head and use edge & a gillette fusion. Anything other than Edge and I have cuts on my head.

one thing you must do is hold a hot wet wash cloth on you face for about 20 seconds to loosen the hair follicles. then shave only with the grain where you get razor rash. shaving against the grain is whats irritating your skin. trust me im a barber, i use a straight razor daily on people so i know how to avoid razor rash.and always use a good sharp razor.

I used to break out horribly on my neck and chin until I started shaving in the shower. I don't even use cream or gel; just soap, and I wash my face and neck after I'm done shaving to keep my pores clear. Since I started, I never get irritation unless I'm using an old, dull blade. Don't waste your time with cheap razors... buy a good one like Mach 3 or a Fusion (or a straight blade, if you dare). Your face will thank you.

i got de vergulde hand, it's a dutch product, but i reckon it's the best ever (and it smells nice too) you might wanna use "normal" shaving cream (the ones you have to foam yourself with a bristle) instead of aerosol can or some gel. i first had those kinda things and they made my face irritate really bad. you might also wanna try washing more thuroughly and change the blade more often (if you notice it's not so bad after you put a new blade on).

if those things still dont help, you might wanna see a doctor about it. my father also needed to do that, turned out he was allergic for a component in the gel he was using.

I have the same problem and I'm considering the final solution, laser epi. I'm fed up with the constant bleeding on my neck.It takes a day for the pain to go away too.

I used to shave everyday in high school,I'm telling you I had a layer missing on my skin.It turned purple() at some point and I rejected to shave, went to school with my beard. It never gets better for me.

*A tip I can give is,as stated earlier, shave after a bath. Also you can take a towel, put it over boiling water and hold it on your face till the hair softens.Barber trick

*Mach III is a no-no,2 blades are cool though.

*Don't go over the same place more then 2 times.Let it stay hairy and disgusting.

--Also do you know "alum"? After shaving ends,I wash my face, while its still wet I apply the alum all over my face.Burns a little but It helps lot more then Gillette,Nivea and etc. after shaves.

you crazy? nearly killed myself once with a two-blader. mach 3 is the way to go for me, but i guess it all comes down to preference and what you're used to

Edge Gel and a Powered Fusion razor does the job for me.

Also, DO NOT SHAVE WHEN YOU ARE ANGRY!

Do not shave with anything that looks like it belongs in a toy box.

Last time I did shave (naught...somethin' or other), I used
Nivea for Men Shaving Gel, Sensitive Skin. No bumps, cuts,
etc., and it didn't smell too bad.
