Shipping 80 pounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
Someone wants to buy my amp head. I'm from New York he's from Texas. Before I check out my local UPS for an estimate I thought I'd ask you guys. He offered 75$ for shipping. Any ideas?

80lb amp head, Fender Bassman 300 all pro series.

that seems about right. All depends on shipping box size also. But I shipped a box probably 2 times as big as an amp head should need (weight was 75 lbs) and it was about $85 from CA to VA. Sent it Fedex too which for me usually is a bit cheaper.

Just hit up the websites for the companies. Enter your box dimensions, weight and to/from zip codes and it'll spit out an estimate. A couple of things to consider though...
If you have them box it for you, it'll cost more. Depending on the boxes the store has, it can be a lot more. You'll pay for the box and packing material, and also the shipping fee. Anytime I've shipped a head and had them box it, the boxes they have are either too small to have adequate packing (literally 1" or less on each side) or gigantic (extra $ for shipping).
If you box it yourself, you'll likely be able to get a better fitting box, which will save you.
My gut wants to tell me that if you box it yourself, you'll be able to do it for the $75. If you have them do it, I'd expect it to be near or over $100.

$75 seems pretty reasonable from something that heavy travelling that far.

The big up side of them doing the boxing is, should something go wrong, it's their asses. They can't pull the "inadequet packaging" nonsense.

Yup. And with an 80lb piece of technology that's powered by glass tubes with filaments inside them, being transported cross-country by rail and truck, handled by a dozen or more employees who're being pushed to meet production levels, there's a decent chance something can go wrong.

Check out fedex's rates. I remember them being much cheaper than UPS or USPS for large or heavy items.
