Should I move?

I've been employed at a great company here in the Twin Cities. My wife is still in school and is working as a medical assistant. The place where she works has offered tuition reimbursment if she attends nursing school up here. And they would offer her work for at least 2 years after she graduates.

We are both from Madison which is more than a 4 hour drive away. We are thinkng about moving to Chicago since there is a job opening in my field down there. The company seems cool and i've checked it out online.

I have my only sibling living in Chicago as well as several aunts and uncles. And Chicago is only 2 hours away instead of 4.

I don't really have many friends up here and neither of us have family up here. Just my musical friends which i could make down there.

Since my wife hasen't started nursing school she could find a school down there and possibly find a job that offers tuition reimbursment like up here. We don't know if the pay would be the same.

I would hope that the people i work with down there are as cool as the people up here.

I also know that my boss is 52 and will retire in about 10 years most likely and i don't know what will happen to the company after that. Thats why im thinking about the future. And the fact that we don't have any kids yet makes this time seem better than 4 or 5 years from know

What do you think?

The problem is that you're asking for advice based on very specific information. It's hard for someone that doesn't really know you or your situation to give you anything but their own experiences with moving under related circumstances.

But from your wording, it seems like you really want to move and you are looking for TBers to tell you its the right decision. If that's what will make you and your wife happier, then what's the downside? Just the hassle of moving? What are the real pros and cons?
