should i try to get a job?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just turned 15 and I'm thinking about trying to get a job. The only problems i can think of are that I'm lazy, all i do is play bass, i pretty much don't do anything else. Another thing is that School's coming up and i think it may be a bit too much for me to handle. (considering it will be my first year of high school )

I know i pretty much just answered my own question but your opinions will help.

I started working at 14...but none of it interfered with my schooling. When I was 16, I started having school/work issues. Same thing with college. At the time, I just couldn't handle the full time school, full time work, full time party thing. One of them always suffered and it was never the party. good times, bad grades.

But back to highschool....working is a great way to help get priorities in order and get some extra spending money, provided it doesn't affect your education.

My daughters both started working while in high school - so did my wife and I back in prehistoric times.

The issue isn't work - it's whether you are willing to commit to something and do it. If all you do is play bass, it's time to take another step in your life and tackle high school and something else. Could be sports, could be adding music to your studies, could be work. Not to be rude, but entering high school is time to get off your butt.

As we mature (and we do so at different speeds) we're ready to do more with our lives. Take the step and find a job with limited hours - something that doesn't tie up all your time. Then tell yourself that you're going to do it well, show up on time, and that you will do work you'll be proud of. That commitment will carry forward in your life and do you a lot of good.

Hold out as long as you can. Enjoy your youth. Once you start working. You never stop until you are too old to care.

Man. . . in Aylesford?!? Work where? I lived there about 25 yrs ago, (like, 3 houses east of the crossroads, north side behind the schoolyard) and it was deadsville. I ended up moving to Halifax, but you can't at 15. Wow. I hope things are better out there now, good luck!

I've worked every day of my life that I've been legally able to. Took a three month hiatus while left without a license in college, but thats it.
