If you've been under a cinemagic rock, its the new Scorsese film, starring Leo DiCaprio and Sir Ben Kingsley. Its been delayed a few times since New Line is doing poorly on the cash
end of things.

It comes out Friday, and I'm beyond stoked.

They've also totally redone the tone of the original trailers for the TV spots.

Original Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYVrHkYoY80
has a bit of a film-noir feel to it.

TV Spot:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxmpSB00coE
seems like a horror flick.

The Trailer looks good. I average about one trip to the theater per year. I need to make my '10 trip a good one. This looks like a good one!!! I was hoping to see Avatar but never made it

I'm pretty pumped for this movie too. The Departed was AMAZING, so I'd put money down that this one will be great too.

Ever since Catch Me If You Can, Leonardo has been one of my favorite actors. From the looks of this trailer I smell Oscar.

I didn't like the look of the TV spot when I first saw it, but I now plan on seeing this. Leo is one of the best actors of this generation and he does not look to disappoint in this case.

Yeah, the TV spot is completely different from the trailers they were showing this summer. Its always fun to watch the marketing gurus at work.

I saw the sneak preview last night. It was good. A bit long, but good. Never read the book.

So,

I saw this on Friday night. At first, I was like "screw you too movie", but after I really thought about everything and the way it played out I realized how much I liked it.

I would not say it is the best movie I have ever seen, but I will say that it is the best movie I have seen in about 2-3 years.

Anyone else see it? Or was it just me and arnold layne.

How can New Line be low on cash after The Lord of the Rings? Are their executives in charge of expenditures drunk?

Saw it twice on Friday. Excellent film, not Scorsese's best, but that's hard for anyone to compete with.

New Line did have the Lord of The Rings trilogy, but that was a while ago, and making movies is a very expensive proposition at the best of times. Piracy and the downturned economy haven't helped them, either.

So what's the verdict? Is DiCaprio actually crazy, or was Ben Kingsley an evil brainwashing genius?

I ended up thinking that

DiCaprio was actually crazy the whole time. At the end they show him that he's crazy, and he finally accepts the truth and becomes sane again. Even though they end the movie with him going off to be lobotomized, I think he knew what was going on and acted like he was still living in his fantasy because he wanted to get lobotomized. His whole "Better to die as a hero then live as a monster" (something like that) line gave me this idea. I think he wanted to die/get lobotomized as a hero fighting the machine in his own mind. Or something like that at least.

There's evidence for both sides of the argument--a large part of the reason why I went twice. Most of the evidence for Dicaprio's insanity doesn't begin until he's given the pills from Kingsley's character, namely the flashbacks and the hallucinations. There's also the continual matter of DiCaprio's sanity--if they truly wanted to convince him he was insane, and turn him into one of the ghosts, then the light house would have to be empty. There's also the matter of the last line in the movie: his partner/psychologist calls him Teddy, not Andrew. At the end of the treatment, they convince him that he is Andrew Leddis, but there's never any objective proof of his identity. Of course, there's no objective proof for the "DiCaprio isn't crazy" theory either, which ultimately leaves it open-ended.

An aside: on a second viewing, the pacing seems much faster.

I thought

his partner called him Teddy to test him, and see whether or not DiCaprio would correct him or not.

I really liked the movie, however I agree with the last few spoilers. How do you do that BTW?
