Sick Little One

Our daughter is sick.

She's been barfing all day. I hate not being able to do something for her, and I'm also worried that she can't keep anything in- including water.

Lick her nose so you can get sick with her.

What was the game the South Park kids played when Kenny had the chicken pox?

Watch for dehydration, it can happen quickly to the little ones.

As a dad, you'd be surprised what you lick off your kids face in lieu of actually getting a napkin. Chocolate ice-cream, cherios, dried mac and cheese. So to lick a little snot off her nose is not totally as crazy as it sounds.

My little girl is home sick too. Barfing and the whole 9.

Sucks when the little ones are not well. If she continues to reject everything - especially fluids, call your pediatrician. You have to be careful she doesn't get too dehydrated.

Hope she feels better soon!

pedialyte. Even if they barf it back up, it still gets a little vitamins and fluid in there.

Yup. That's what we give our kids when they get sick too.

Thanks!

I was thinking along Ensure lines- even though I know it would be too "thick" for her.

Fluids and concerns for dehydration is more of a priority at this point.

Make sure she keeps sipping water too

As much as she is barfing up, some will still get in there,

Hope she gets better soon!

That sucks. If shes got a fever keep that down with Tylenol and Ibuprofen ( alternate between the 2). Pedialyte is good. If shes barfing alot or has the runs she needs the electrolytes. The problem with water is that it doesn't replace anything besides volume, electrolytes keep dropping and it can cause other problems like seizures. Of course it'd take a fair bit-o-chucking to do that.....like someone already said it can happen in kids relatively quickly.

If it keeps up for more than a day or so I'd reccomend a trip to the clinic.

Hope kiddo gets better soon!

+1. This stuff is magic. I had my wife send bunches of it to me when I was in Iraq. Going on convoys for days at a time with very little water is a good way to get dehydrated.

Ooh, did you guys have the "reclamated" seawater to drink?

I remember the water that was so salty, your tongue was always all swollen... Memories...

OK...advice from an old hand...

To soothe the tummy and give her fluids, nothing beats warm Jello in her favorite flavor. My mother used to give me that, and it was soooo soothing.

Chicken broth is also good. No noodles, no meat...just broth.

When she feels a little better, but isn't quite ready for "real food"...

Regular ol' saltines are good to take little bites and chew slowly.

Bananas. They replace so many nutrients, and can be eaten just a little bite and wrapped back up in the skin to keep well for later.

These things, plus water, are good for her when she has a stomach virus. I've been through these with two kids, and they always work.

{{{{{{{{{{{{GET WELL HUGS!}}}}}}}}}}} to your little one.

If this doesn't clear up, contact a doctor. Never hurts...
