Silence of the Lambs

Just finished watching this movie. Possibly the most intense movie I have seen so far, and while it's not a horror, it frightens me more than any other.

I'm not really comfortable with the suspense and murder, especially with such a lovable main character.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter has got to be one of the best "bad" characters out there. Can't think of anyone that tops him in that category, not even Heath Ledger's Joker.

One thing I didn't like about the movie, was that they focused too much on Buffalo Bill, and not enough on Lectre and Starling, which I thought was the highlight of the whole film. The Bill segment was too "normal" for me, even though it brought the most intensity for the film.

Anyone else like the movie?

I thought Manhunter which actually preceded Silence of the Lambs directed by Michael Mann was as good or better.

I *agree* with the OP on the character of Hannibal Lecter. He's always fascinated me and Anthony Hopkins is a fantastic actor to boot.

If you're interested into delving into the character of Hannibal a little more, watch the movie Hannibal which takes place a number of years after Silence of the Lambs. It pretty much revolves around Lecter and really centers around what drives him.

I think I was a little bit confusing with my wording. What I meant was that he was one of the best sub-villains (I say sub- because it doesn't feel like he's a "true" villain in the movie). He's my favorite character in the film.

Also, Clarice Starling is veeerrrryyy pretty

+1 This, Brian Cox is the daddy of Lecter's, much more realistic film imo.

Great, another "read the book, it's better" guy. Some of us go to movies so we don't have to read the book.

I have read the book and seen the movie, the book was good, but the movie made me nervous to turn the lights off at night.

It's better because it's more really. The movies, as usual, didn't touch all of the details in the book.

I just saw Manhunter for the first time...I hated it! Nowhere near the quality of Silence of the Lambs. I found it painful to watch to the end.

I agree. The movies leave all the boring parts of the book out.

As for the book/movie this thread is about, yeah it scares me real good too when I watch it.

One of my professors from my Master's program was actually an extra in that movie. He's one of the police officers in a scene.

Great movies and great books +1. Red Dragon's the best of the books and SotL is the best of the films, IMO.

O.K. I'll say the soundtrack doesn't do it any favours in places, but that is all.
