Silica Frac Mining

Hi all, I'm just posting this to see if anyone has any experience with this topic. Living near, or even working and the effects of these mines.

They are trying to put a few of these where I grew up. Very rural area in southeastern Minnesota. From what I read it sounds like these mines destroy a lot of things environmentally.

While I'm very far from a "tree hugger" I still respect what we have on this Earth and even more so in our "untouched" American farm land and when its within yards of a big creek(really a big creek, probably should be considered a river), that runs into the Mississippi, and yards from state wildlife reserves, and family farms, and also about 5 communities of small town folks.

I will post a link to get a little more aquainted with the situation here, on the bottom of the page there are newspaper articles you can read to see what the plan is here.

Any info from anyone about this topic would be awesome as I want to know what the heck this can really do to the land, and people. Because it sounds terrible.

I work in the swimming pool business, and so far, well water tends to have a very high total alkalinity (carbonate level) in the area south of town where there are a lot of gas wells.

Last year a whole neighborhood had to be evacuated because of the pressure in one of those things...

Well, if you can light tap water on fire around there, you should expect it to become a lot worse.

Yeah, I've heard of the methane-in-the-groundwater problem.

A bunch of cows died a year or two ago and it was attributed to that.

There is an awful lot of hydro-fracking going on just south of me, in Western PA.
I am far from expert, but I don't like what I hear so far.

I guess that the Marcellus shale formation has some radioactive properties, and the millions of gallons of water and chemicals they inject cause that material to infiltrate the ground water table.
So the rural areas that surround the drill sites get poisoned well water.

There is a motion to approve generic fracking in NYS.
Let's see if our new governor is up to protecting us from this abomination.
