i'm not too big on Vodka or Cognac, but Scotch , anejo tequilas, and hot sauce are all
Scotch-wise some of my favorites are various types of McCallan, the Dalwhinnie, and highland park. I like nutty, oaky, smokey more than peaty...
Tequila - I still haven't had one I like better than Chinaco's Anejo. I'll put it up against any of the aforementioned scotches
Bourbons I am still learning, but definitely a fan. An affordable one I like is the Woodford's Reserve
I don't drink too much beer these days, as it always leaves me feeling bloated and running to pee constantly, but I was quite the beer snob for a loong time.
Hot Sauce favorites: Hard to go more than a couple days without using copious amounts of Tapatio. Gotta love Marie Sharp's as well. Those two are the best every day hot sauces for me. There's lots of small time habanero sauces I've liked through the years. One of my favorites I've tried was called "Red Rectum" |

1) Bowmore cask strength. i've yet to find something that compares although i'd love to try their sherry or wine cask offerings. Fairly peaty islay, but thats what I enjoy.
2) Glendronach. Aged in sherry casks. Really enjoyable.
3) for something a little more mellow, Auchentoshen. A well done lowland malt is quite pleasant at times.
4) The cask strength is pretty cheap (35 CAD) but in a lower range, the McClellands Lowland and Islay are pleasant (20-25 CAD) Had them recommended by a scottish gourmet chef as his personal favorite, so i had to try it. A warning, their other attemps seem to me to be salty or have unpleasant aftertastes, but too each their own I guess.
And, anyone (especially canadian) ever heard of pike creek whisky? I had it recomended at work this summer and apparantly it can't be found in Alberta. Aged in wine casks and I'd love to give it a try if anyone can suggest where?
Thanks for all the suggestions... I now have some sampling to do!

As for single malt.. The Macallan, Lagavulin, Talisker.

I will start by saying that I like a variety of single malts, and I appreciate almost all of them. But, the variation between different single malts is really quite astounding, and there are always particular products which will have greater appeal to a given individual. I tend to prefer the Islay malts, and Lagavulin 16 yr. is a constant stable in my liquor cabinet.
Laphroaig is an occassional deviation from Lagavulin, and I have found myself spending a lot of time with The Balvenie 12 yr. Doublewood of late. Other scotches that I generally have on hand include: Oban (gotta have a bottle of Oban in the house!), Talisker, Dalwhinnie, The Macallan, and I still have some Glenfiddich 18 yr. Ancient Reserve which I am tring to milk along for as long as I can.
I'm sure I'll have more to add as we go on, but perhaps this will get things going.
Discuss!
Tom. | I knew there was another reason we got along Tom hehe. I am a huge fan of Lagavulin. My fav scotch that isnt insanely priced |
