I'm going to have to read the old thread. There seems to be some good stuff in there.

Still loving Bowmore Legend for inexpensive stuff that's good. Still loving Lagavulin 16 for the sort of expensive stuff that's great. Drinking Dewar's right now (I know it's not single... Christmas present).

lots of good stuff in that thread, but a new one was overdue.

so, in. Still have 1/3 to 1/2 of my Ardbeg 10 (I like it a lot) and less of my Tamdhu 10 (not great, but smooth and cheap). Need to branch out in 2013.

Personal favorite for myself is still Macallan 18... and a big thanks to MAJOR METAL who introduced me to good Scotch off the bat.

+1 on both counts. I just finished bottles of both of those, and it's time to restock the cupboards!

I personally like the 15 better, and the quarter cask even better than that.

I am not really into the 10 (compared to other Islays), but Laphroaig 18 just rocks my world.

Our taste are very similar. But I must admit that Laphoig 18 is quickly becoming my new "measuring standard" over even the most excellent Lagivulln 16

For me, winter = Scotch. Right now I've got a bottle of standard Glenmorangie 12 year. Maybe for new year's I'll splurge on something a bit nicer. Something in the 18 year range, I'm thinking.

I don't expect anybody to remember me, but it's good to see that the folks who have posted in one of the first 5 threads I've looked at since I revisited TB, I recognize the screen names! My vote goes for The Glenlivet. I may be poor but I'll always dig this swill!

The missus got me a bottle of Benromach traditional for Christmas, a really nice NAS malt. Quite smokey for a Speysider.

As Benromach only restarted production about 12 or 13 years ago, everything they have is fairly fresh (they also have peaty varieties and the first fully certified organic malt, where everything, even the casks, have been specifically sourced). Oldest current production is only 10 yo.

They have sold some older malts, but they seem to have had a bit of a mixed response and were simply older stock from the last owners. Certainly a distillery to keep an eye on IMO.

Whisky shopping was fun, sadly there was no Laphroaig 18 or any Lagavulin.

I'm not complaining.

I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to get into the Islay malts I have tried most of them, all different ages, but they just don't do anything for me except make me cringe. Makes me feel like I'm not able to enjoy the extent of what Scottland malts have to offer. The only one I can manage to find the flavor depths is the Ardbeg 10 and older.

Oh well, I guess their aren't for everyone!

Don't worry about it at all. Drink what you enjoy. That's what is so enticing about scotch - the range of flavors available.

Very nice! Highland Park 18 is really great.

I nearly bought the 25 instead of the 18, but I recalled reading something about it not being that great. Maybe it was in Murray's bible... I forgot.

^ Yup.

Jealous of the HP18!

Hopefully start earning reasonable money this year and be able to indulge a bit more!
