Sinuses and the DEA

Sign in to disble this ad
I did not think that things could get worse than having a credit card get declined during vacation, I was wrong.

I am not able to buy sinus medication because I do not hold a US ID anymore. This is because the DEA has made it a controlled substance because it is an ingredient to make meth.

What about making drano or even matches a controlled substance? Better yet, make it next to impossible to get brake fluid...

It's available in pharmacies and takes only 30 seconds. It's no the end of the world.

Not available to anyone without sufficient ID.

yup

Thing is, the druggies figured out how to be more efficient (also more dangerous) and don't need to buy such large quantities any more.

You should be thankful your government is keeping you safe from the ravages of Meth addiction, just like the TSA kept you safe from shampoo bombs carried by four year old Jihadhist on your plane.

If you don't have sufficient ID, you have other problems.

As to the effectiveness of the DEA policy, it has not cut down meth use, but meth labs are not as locally prominent as they were 10 years ago.

Pfsht. Cooking meth takes work. I will just stick to huffing air dusters and gasoline.

This.

It was the FDA that did it, not the DEA.

Yeah, there was a thread about it last summer. I bought a Clint Eastwood 3-pack at wally world, his old spaghetti westerns, and they told me that you have to be 18 with ID in order to buy it. I remember not being too pleased that some of the members sided with Walmart on this, especially that, while they are violent in a 60s sort of way, kids nowadays can see way more violent stuff on YouTube anytime they want. But people siding with the Evil Empire? Puh-leez!!

My ID is sufficient enough to enter the USA, drive a vehicle, get a room, use as identification for credit card usage but not good enough to buy some sinus medicine.

I show parts of TGTBTU to my 7th and 8th grade students. That's ridiculous.

It's not the end of the world, but it IS a pain in the neck. I find the quantity limitations particularly annoying.

The rules around here only let you purchase 1 pill per day up to a maximum of 30-35 pills/month. Normally, this isn't a big deal, but when allergy season hits and both my wife and I need some decongestant, it is. Say I go grocery shopping and pick up a 15 pack at the pharmacy. Great, we've got booger pills for a week.

When I go back the next week, I can't buy more because 15 days have not elapsed yet there is only 1 pill to last 2 people for a week.

Sure, there are ways to get around this. I can ask my wife to do the food shopping that week, or just go to a different store (Wow! Bullet-proof system they've got in place) but that's not the point. The point is that the new rules only make it harder for the law-abiding segment of the population to get their medicine.
