Skiing 2k10

Since I'm about to go on vacation this weekend, and I'm going skiing for my vacation. I thought it might be fun to find out who participates in this sport and where their favorite slopes are.

I am going skiing Fri. and Sat. at Blue Knob Ski Resort in claysburg, pa. It's the only place I've ever gone due to variety of terrain, hours of operation, and cost to ski.

So, saying that, what are everyone's favorites, and where are they located? (please limit to 3 resorts or less).

I've only been skiing 3 times, but the last time I went to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Great place.

Recovering Ski Instructor here. Here are some of my California favorites:

Northstar at Tahoe for a truly great destination resort experience. Sugarbowl for a great mountain where the locals go, including Daron Rahlves, in Truckee, CA. Mammoth, the name says it all. It takes all day to ski from one end to the other and back. The natural hot springs after skiing is a bonus.

i honestly can't remember any of the names of the places i've skiied out west (all of which were better than any of the mountains in NE), except for Alto and Brighton in Utah and Northstar in CA.

in new england i've enjoyed Killington (and Pico), Sunday River, and i have fond memories (albeit no specific ones) of Okemo even though that was over 12 years ago..

Well we don't have the rockies here out east... all we have are the appalachians and a few other ones that aren't as spectacular as out west. I would love to ski at steamboat or mammoth though, but their prices are ungodly for us wage slaves.

Heck with the advanced stuff though, I mainly ski to relax and I can do that just fine on the 2.5 mile trail where I'm going. Just a shame half the snow is manmade these days... friggin screwy weather.

So do you own your own gear, or rent? I own my own, but don't get to use it much. This is the first time in 9 years I'm going to use mine.

Gear:

Head FX9 180cm 1st gen shaped skis
Salomon 777 Bindings
Alpina 3 buckle front entry boots
Scott poles

The only skiing I do anymore is at a resort about 10 minutes away, that opens up free skiing after 3:00 pm. You can only get about 2 hours worth if you're lucky, but I'm too poor to pay for skiing anytime else.

Life long skier here. Started at age five. Raced competitively in Slalom, GS, and Super G and Downhill until 14. Went to Junior Olympics when I was 14. Then I switched to Freestyle Moguls, Aeriels and Ballet when I was 15. I competed until I was 20, then switched to Coaching. I haven't coached for a few years, but I may start again next season, because I'm gong to get my son signed up on the team. He's 8, we started him when he was 2. He's about ready to start in on moguls next season. I still get at least 10 days in a year. Next season I'm buying a season pass and I'll be going every weekend like I used.

I coached and grew up skiing at Mt. Sunapee in NH.

My other Favs: Sugarloaf, Sunday River, and Cannon Mt.

Former long-time ski bum. Make mine Stowe VT, Alta UT, and Crystal Mtn WA. Off the trails in all cases.

My knees are pretty much used up (too many hard moguls, and gate skiing didn't really help), I windsurf instead now.

Anybody else watch the Big Air skiing at X Games the other day? Those guys are throwing completely insane air, I was amazed.

I just went to Snowshoe, WV two weeks ago, and usually ski either there or at Winterplace, WV. Been to Sugar Mnt also, but WV usually has better conditions.

Still working on getting out West one year.

If you show up after 3 pm, you can ski the resort until close (5 pm-ish) without paying anything.
