Skype?

I downloaded it at the recommendation of a friend and am not exactly sure how to use it all! Can you just chat with random people? How?

I don't really like skype that much. I tried using it with a friend of mine who is overseas and the call quality was no good.

Plus, you can do video and voice calls with MSN messenger anyway.

But that's beside the point. You add contacts like you would in any other messaging/chat program. You can add them by their email address or their skype username. Alternatively, you can call actual phone numbers in your country for free, but overseas calls cost money.

No, my mistake. That was old information I was looking at. It's no longer free to call landlines in the US. Sorry.

I dont see that as an option. all i see is online, away offline and such.

see your skype icon in the tray? assuming your using windows, right click the icon, go to change status, and then skypeme!.

okay, so my buddy was fartin around on my computer and called his cell phone with skype from my computer a few days ago. yet i didnt have to pay anything...whats with that?

Yeah, it used to be free for calls didn't it?
I use it to webchat with my girl in Canada, but really you can just use msn messenger or something. I downloaded it expecting free calls, or at least cheap. It does have cheap international calls, but really, when I can call Canada for .5 cents a minute off a calling card from my actual phone, and not my laptop like skype I chose calling card.

I never really got into msn, but I have skype on most of the time. With the pre-paid system they offer, you can get very cheap calls to landlines, also abroad. Last time I called someone abroad using skype (to a landline in Germany) it cost me 2 cents a minute. That's cheap. It's also good for chatting and sending files, and the sound quality is better than over the phone.
