SLOT CARS?!?

Sign in to disble this ad
So we're fairly poor, & I missed the wife's B-day(didn't really miss it, just didn't make the superhuman effort required to get just the right thing while simultaneously keeping all 3 kids alive, clothed & fed).
I hit upon the idea of getting her a slot car set(yes, really)including a Mini-Cooper(she loves them & wants one), which I'm sure would tickle her(and the kids, to say nothing of ME )pink, but like all hobbies, theer's a ton of stuff out there. Does anyone here play w/slot cars? 1/32 or HO; I'm open to anything at this point.

I used to own a Carrera digital set. It took up to much room and it's pricey. It was a lot of fun.

I can make room(for a reasonably-sized layout, I think... )but is it something where I need to shell out 3 bills to find out if it's worth it or can I get a load of jollies for $100(or even under)?

I've still got a carrying case full of AFX cars and parts. I have no idea why I chose to save them, as all of the track is long gone, but I may eBay them to make some space. My Dodge Charger beat all comers!

There are several sets you can get for under $100 Bassteban.

If she likes that kinda thing, it will be something fun the whole family can do together.

I was really into slots as a kid. For some reason, I think I would still enjoy it.
Good luck.
Cheers, Dave

I googled "slot car women". I came up with one conclusion. Women don't want slot cars.

Of course I don't know your wife, but I have a feeling that she might just see it as something you bought for yourself.

Interesting thought, I gave away my 'nice' AFX set, recently, to a charity rummage sale.

DANG it- where was I?

Edit: Seriously, is AFX alright? I wouldn't mind snagging a pile of old stuff if it actually works OK.

then i liked them so much (and him too i think) that he bought a new set, and it had loops and all that jazz...

.. damn, you have just given me slot car GAS. i think im going to need to go burrowing around in the garage for them :/

I've got my son's track set up in the other room. I think might go fire it up now.

Alright, I'll be gone from noon-ish today until Sunday night; when I return here I want to see some cheap-but-decent(6 months minimum before complete breakdown)name brands. Atoz, you're in charge.

used to do that when we were kids........the commercial track was 3 busses but it was a big 8 lane deal with around 30 feet of straightaway....trouble was the grown ups had way more money and know how so we could never compete.....1/24 is probably better if you like detail..and good luck finding somewhere to race

Slot cars are cool. That's one of my three main hobbies (bass, slot cars,
dune buggies). But as a gift for your wife?! I don't know, man.
That might just earn you a frying pan clunked over your head.
