So, how do you feel about watches? Do you use one, or do you just use your cell phone? And if you do own one, is it a basic watch you can abuse, or have you put down some cash to get one of the expensive crafted automatics?
I just put few hundred bucks into a new Seiko, when my old cheapo broke down - I wanted something with a bit better quality for daily use. I like watches, and for me it's a practicality issue too, since I do some lab work.

I'll be buying a new one at some point next year. My grandfather was a watchmaker, so I appreciate the good ones.

For everyday I use a Nike watch because it's waterproof so when I sweat it's fine. I also have a sweet leather Fossil watch, and if I'm getting really classy I'll pull out the pocketwatch.

At some point I'm sure I'll get a Cartier or something... Jacob & Co. watches are popular with the more well off kids at our school. I wish I had the means to drop 15k on a watch, but I don't :P.

Anytime I would be at friends I would remove my watch and forget quite frequently. Once I got my cellphone I stopped wearing the watch largely because of comfort and that I had an additional time source.

I only take it off to shower. I even sleep with it on. This watch has lasted longet than any other I've owned, even Seiko. It's been about 6 years without a battery change or anything.
I always rock the Timex. I have a weird acidity to my sweat that turns leather into sticky goo and destroys any metal that's not stainless steel or gold. |

Seriously, go to sleep with a cellphone next to your head. You'll wake up with a weird fuzzy feeling in your head. Can't be healthy... |

I paid more to get that band replaced than I paid for any watch I've ever bought in my life, whether for me or for a gift. Few jewelers want to even try repairing them so I had a tough time finding someone who'd do it.
Sure it's nice to have a dressy watch for a formal occasion, but they're just not my thing. I only wear a watch because it's functional, not as a fashion statement, so the most expensive I've ever bought for myself is a low end Seiko. I've had more Timex's than anything.

I'll probably try something different when it tickles my fancy. Something cheap though, because I'm not a person to drop a ton of money on a watch. I know I want something that doesn't have a metal band this time around though.

Realistically, they ain't worth what they cost! I didn't even buy mine. It was a gift from an ex g/f years ago. I'd never drop $1k on a watch! Last time the battery pooped out I had a hell of a time finding someone willing to replace it. This was back in northeast PA. I'm thinking it'll be easier to track someone down out here. I expect it won't be a cheap fix though.
