So I was bored...

Sign in to disble this ad
...And I was snooping around on the Yahoo Answers site about Bass stuff, and found this question:

"Is the bass hard to play and late for me to learn?" Basically a 15 year old kid asking if it's too late to learn to play bass (haha) and the top response he chose was best was this...

Your not too old I started playing guitar when i was 16. No it is not hard to learn bass, it is very simply compared to the guitar. Hell I have been playing guitar for 11 years and i never picked up a bass but i can play it with the knowledge that I have from guitar playing. I say give it a shot it never hurts, to me 15 is the perfect age. Just keep practicing, it will be like second nature. ROCK ON!!!

Why must guitard's think they can play bass just because they can play guitar. I don't say I can play guitar because I play bass.

Heres the link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...6070335AAbeYPm

Notice the dude's response on the bottom. I thought that was pretty cool.

Sorry, but I think that any good guitarist with rhythm will be, at the very least, functional on the bass.

I have taken some drums and bass lessons later in life (many years after playing guitar all that time.) Drums and bass have given me a WAY better appreciation for timing!!

I use to make up some really cool guitar riff and then when I went to record it found I had a HELL of a time trying to get it timed/sync'd properly so that I could lay down additional musical tracks. I now lay down bass parts first in my recording process since it is much easier to put in my "lazy" guitar work over a good solid musical base.

Yes... the fretboards may be somewhat similiar but guitar and bass are two WAY different skill sets to me. I should know... I suck at both of em!!

You would think that, but I have seen many a guitard make a fool of themselves trying to play a bass...

Just sayin.

I'm not talking about taking away the guitar, handing someone a bass who has never played one before, and putting them on stage.

What I'm saying is that any GOOD guitar player who took a bass home with them and played around with it for a day would probably do a decent job. I bet that a good guitar player would have a much better understanding of keys than the average bass player.

Yea but this guy said "I haven't even picked up a bass and know I can already play it..."

That's what got me. He hasn't even touched a bass and states he can play it.
