It's a magic pull called Quietus. I suspect it's another one of those free trials and then you're joined into a monthly delivery [and bill] if not canceled w/in 30 days. I have tinnitus and there is no cure for it, but I digress.
I thought the name "Quietus" sounded familiar, and that's because Quietus is the name of the suicide kit the government provides in the science fiction film, "Children of Men".
Bad name for a pill.

My wife and I have a white noise machine that covers up the ringing in my ears when I'm trying to sleep |

Older/infirm citizens have become a burden; nursing homes are for the privileged few. The rest face more gruesome options: They can either (a) die helpless and unassisted in their homes; (b) commit suicide or (c) take part in a so-called Quietus (Council-sanctioned mass drownings). Before he agrees to see the Council as Julian and the others ask, Theo views a Quietus and is injured by one of the security people supervising it while trying to save a woman he knew.

I've been taking bioflavinoids ever since, and not only for my ears. Perhaps it's helped; I don't know.
I went to the Quietus website to find out what the heck is in it, but that information is not available. This is another reason not to trust an outfit that tries to get [trick?] people into a monthly contract.

Maybe I'm just cynical.

It does other sounds as well. There are some expensive ones out there. Quote:

Maybe I'm just cynical. | And/or people try it for a couple weeks and then forget to cancel.
Or, people don't read the [very] small print that comes with the free sample that spell out the terms. How do you think I know this? http://www.alteril.com/
Those people called the monthly delivery and bill a "club".

Haven't chimed in till now. About a year ago I heard the radio commercial for quietus. I called. I don't remember the exact details, but it was a free offer and a great commercial that convinced me I had nothing to lose. A very nice compasiionate woman answered the phone. She spent about 15 - 20 minutes asking me questions regarding my tinnitus, talking to me, raising a glimmer of hope, and then at the end of it all the free trial thing... I had to pay something like $120 and THEN I'd get a free bottle or some crap like that. I remember telling her no, I want a free trial like the incredibly deceptive ad said, which of course she said she couldn't do. Got really pissed off that she wasted my time and suckered me into a sales pitch... and yeah. Like that. I don't trust them there people.
Onto more reading about tinnitus. |

I may have an advantage though as in having had it since childhood for some unknown reason, I'm kind of used to it.
I definitely made it 100% worse through loud practices, gigs, gun ranges, even running a table saw at an old job with no hearing protection.. but I guess I'm kind of lucky in that it doesn't bother me much. I knew a guy who had developed it later in life and it damn near turned the guy into a basket case.

I knew a guy who had developed it later in life and it damn near turned the guy into a basket case. | I've had it just about my whole life. I too was able to just put it into the background. The past 2 years however it's turned into a whole new animal, and I now understand why people sometimes go nuts with this stuff.
Along with the worsening of the tennitus came a super senstitivity to sound. If someone claps in front of me it's like it sets off sirens in my ears, and the ringing will last for hours. Not the ringing that I used to deal with either, I'm talking ringing that gets louder than the people talking around me. When I play a cover gig now, I have to put earplugs in immediatly if there's a DJ there. I have to block the sound out as much as possible or my ears will ring for 3 days. I've started going outside between sets and sitting in my car. I was invited to a big party that I really wanted to go to this saturday, I realized 2 days before going that I couldn't go because there was going to be a DJ and a band there. I wouldn't be able to talk to anyone because I'd have to have my ears plugged all the time. Had to call and alter my RSVP...
Why am I writing this? Because I think it's important that people know there are absolutely different levels of tinnitus. IME there's the kind that can be loud and annoying but you learn to live with it, and then there's the kind that keeps you from listening to music, going to clubs, communicating with people and has you start becoming phobic of sirens, squeaky doors, car horns, loud noises, etc. I now have to bring earplugs to movies and shows.
Wear earplugs. All the time. And lower your ipods. |

| | Supporting Member | | | | | Both my eardrums ruptured badly (within 12 hrs of each other) back in January after years of chronic sinus infections. Since they "healed back" I've had a constant high pitched ringing in my ears. It's not as bad as it was when they first ruptured, I was darn near deaf for well over a month and all I could hear was intense ringing and loud white noise. How do yall get used to this? Will that Quietus stuff help this?

In the post above, you've described my exact symptoms.
