So...I quit smoking.

After 20 years and a few short lived attempts at quitting, I have now made it 2+ weeks without a cigarette. It's going pretty well, but I keep having dreams about smoking, which make the mornings kinda rough. Anybody else here go through this? On the upswing, my breathing is getting much easier, and I can smell/taste again....As a reward for quitting, I'm gonna use the money saved to finance a Dingwall Combustion when they become more readily available.

I dreamt of smoking up until I was almost completely over quiting. Trust me it gets easier, but only with time.

Good job. Keep it up. I quit a little over 2 years ago--when my son was born. It'll get easier.

First couple of weeks are the most difficult but don't get complacent - it takes 2 years before you can graduate from "ex-smoker" to "non-smoker".

The cravings get less and less over time.

I did work with someone years ago who gave up and used the money she saved to buy a car.

Keep it up....... 30 months and counting for me. The urge still hits at odd times but it does get easier to fight them off.

Congrats, I quit almost 8 months ago. It was hard but it got easier like others mentioned. Get ultrasounds on your carotid artery and jugular vein. Years of smoking clogs them up in some people. My brother just had surgery last week to clear out 80% blockage in the carotid. He quit smoking when he saw that baggy full of crap the surgeon removed.

Good job. So far I have only stopped smoking at work. So I'm down to a pack and 1/2 a week. Your doing better than me...

Way to go!!!! Stay strong, this will probably be one of the hardest things you will ever do. Avoid drinking if possible. Nothing better than a smoke with your favorite libation. Man do I miss it....

Nice to see an "I quit" thread as opposed to an "I'm quitting" thread only to fail 2 days later.

Congrats and keep at it. I'd say you are over the hump. The cravings will crop up at odd times but it's easier to resist once you get past a certain point.

I'm 6 months smoke free. It's a good move for economic and health reasons.

After two weeks the nicotine is out of your system, so now you only have the pesky habits to ignore.
Its much nicer to smell and taste again, I dont know how much packs are now but when I quit they were 4.25 a pack, which was way to much even then.
I cant stand the smell of cigs and smokers now, I always think, damn I use to smell like that.

Good luck and trust us it DOES get easier

Been over three years since I quit, after 35 years of smoking. I still get the occasional craving, but it's real weak and easily dealt with. And I'll always consider myself a smoker who no longer smokes, much like an alcoholic always considers himself an alcoholic who's working on his sobriety. We'll always be ex-smokers, never non-smokers.

Another thing I really like is denying the government the tax revenue they would get if I still smoked. Far better in my pockets than in those greedy basterds' pockets!

I dreamed about smoking occasionally for years after quitting.
I sometimes still wish I could have a cigarette when dealing with frustration, working on a difficult problem, or when I see someone else enjoying a smoke. I envy the people that can smoke socially. I tried, but I'm an all or nothing kind of guy.

Your avatar still smokes. Hopefully he isn't going to influence anybody in this thread to fall off the wagon.

After watching my father-in-law slowly and painfully die of emphysema caused by decades of smoking, I'm rooting for you man! There are people who love you and kinda want you around......don't give up!

Keep in mind they're only enjoying it because they're addicted to it.
