And now I seem to be suffering from caffeine withdrawls (mostly in the form of brutal headaches).
I went from drinking 3-4 cans a day, basically every day, to complete cold turkey (I got sick and all I drank for 10 days was water).
Anyone else experience this?
If so, any advice to cope with it? |

Other than that, you just got to tough it out for a while until the symptoms subside.

I gave up soda as a New Year's resolution. I, too, would drink 3-4 cans (or MORE) every single day. The first week or so was tough to get through, but after that, it was actually really easy not to drink soda. Just tough it out and you'll be fine!

It's the withdrawl that's getting to me.
Thanks, though. |

I am thankfully off of it now for about 3 weeks without any intent of returning. (Coffee makes me crazy, as in cracked-out). I find it's easier to take it down slow instead of kicking it cold turkey. I actually only drink about 2 cups a day when I'm on the stuff but it has a severe effect.
I usually just start halving the dose every day and take excedrin for the headaches (it has caffeine too but isn't habit forming for me, so no big deal).
This go around I have been drinking tea instead of coffee...doesn't have any ill effects on me, not fattening, easy to make...I don't see any reason not to drink it

Today I am "clean" and keep a great diet to avoid things with too much sugar in, it's really like a strong drug and for years it was only my strong will and stubbornness that kept me from loosing it again. Now it's no longer a biggie, and I can eat a chocolate bar every now and then in a normal way, even if I seldom do it (i think it's too sweet now), and coke, just makes me want to throw up, soda in general and sweet still drinks does not rock my boat anymore.
Only advice I have, hang in there, and keep the distance when the worst is over, it'll take you a looooong time to make your body accept that you don't want to poison it no more. Don't let your body fool you, it's easy to drop back to your addiction again, telling ya, it's like a drug and the only way to get rid of it, is to stay away from sugar rich stuff!
Good luck!

I've quit cold turkey a couple times, last time lasted for a few months and right now I haven't had soda any in probably 6 or 7 months, and not only do I feel better about myself but I've lost a good chunk of weight.
Just keep it out of the house so when you do have a craving you don't have any. After a month of so you won't even think about drinking soda.

Sometimes I don't buy any for 3-4 days, I don't get caffine withdrawls but I'll just feel like I want some.

Now it's generous amounts of water daily and plenty of iced tea.. but now I'm gravitating towards green tea as it is even milder than the iced tea. Dropping the soda was very difficult.. diet or not it can still get it's claws into your body. |

The benefit of dropping soft drinks is a weight loss benefit though. I stopped drinking Diet Cokes and dropped almost 20lbs in a month. That was the only habit I changed.
