So, I stopped drinking pop...

And now I seem to be suffering from caffeine withdrawls (mostly in the form of brutal headaches).

I went from drinking 3-4 cans a day, basically every day, to complete cold turkey (I got sick and all I drank for 10 days was water).

Anyone else experience this?

If so, any advice to cope with it?

Good amounts of sleep, food, water and vitamins.

Other than that, you just got to tough it out for a while until the symptoms subside.

I gave up soda as a New Year's resolution. I, too, would drink 3-4 cans (or MORE) every single day. The first week or so was tough to get through, but after that, it was actually really easy not to drink soda. Just tough it out and you'll be fine!

I'm not having problems not drinking it. It's the withdrawl that's getting to me.

Thanks, though.

Yeah

I go through this when I try to kick coffee every once in a while. I am thankfully off of it now for about 3 weeks without any intent of returning. (Coffee makes me crazy, as in cracked-out). I find it's easier to take it down slow instead of kicking it cold turkey. I actually only drink about 2 cups a day when I'm on the stuff but it has a severe effect.

I usually just start halving the dose every day and take excedrin for the headaches (it has caffeine too but isn't habit forming for me, so no big deal).

This go around I have been drinking tea instead of coffee...doesn't have any ill effects on me, not fattening, easy to make...I don't see any reason not to drink it

A cpl of years ago I drank 2-3 liters coke a day, and ate candy and lots of crap, until I realized I was badly into a sugar addiction. Today I am "clean" and keep a great diet to avoid things with too much sugar in, it's really like a strong drug and for years it was only my strong will and stubbornness that kept me from loosing it again. Now it's no longer a biggie, and I can eat a chocolate bar every now and then in a normal way, even if I seldom do it (i think it's too sweet now), and coke, just makes me want to throw up, soda in general and sweet still drinks does not rock my boat anymore.

Only advice I have, hang in there, and keep the distance when the worst is over, it'll take you a looooong time to make your body accept that you don't want to poison it no more. Don't let your body fool you, it's easy to drop back to your addiction again, telling ya, it's like a drug and the only way to get rid of it, is to stay away from sugar rich stuff!

Good luck!

D.Don

I also used to drink a 6 pack or more of pepsi per day plus coffee as an avid gamer. Most doctors agree and if you look it up on the internet they suggest NOT going cold turkey for caffiene.

On any given night I used to drink 6-12 cans or a two liter. I've quit cold turkey a couple times, last time lasted for a few months and right now I haven't had soda any in probably 6 or 7 months, and not only do I feel better about myself but I've lost a good chunk of weight.

Just keep it out of the house so when you do have a craving you don't have any. After a month of so you won't even think about drinking soda.

I am like that now. In fact just about 20 minutes ago I went up to the supermarket to buy two 1.25L bottles of Pepsi Max. That'll probably last me until tonight. I feel really guilty about drinking so much soda but I only ever drink diet, EVER. Is it still bad?

Sometimes I don't buy any for 3-4 days, I don't get caffine withdrawls but I'll just feel like I want some.

Coffee's fattening? Or were you the milk and sugar type?

Coffee is not fattening. It even has a laxative effect so it would technically be slimming.

I managed to kick caffeine for about 9 months...but then I had to study for finals and fell off the wagon Managed to stop for a month But now waking up at 3:30am for a 5am-1pm shift has me drinking coffee again to stay awake so I am able to perform my duties properly.

I also kicked soda this year... the acid was not agreeing with my teeth.. Now it's generous amounts of water daily and plenty of iced tea.. but now I'm gravitating towards green tea as it is even milder than the iced tea. Dropping the soda was very difficult.. diet or not it can still get it's claws into your body.

Withdrawals are a real thing.

The benefit of dropping soft drinks is a weight loss benefit though. I stopped drinking Diet Cokes and dropped almost 20lbs in a month. That was the only habit I changed.
