So I think I've decided that I don't wanna drive.

Just the other day (after years of being excited of becoming 16), I decided I don't wanna drive.

I drove a good bit on summer vacation (going up to the panhandle) and it was fun at first, but I was tired of it after awhile. Plus I have my bike, and I have my city metro card, so I've been pretty much dependent for the past month. I've barely rode in a car since I've started school.

Are their any TBers who are over 18 who don't drive? Suggestions ect? Thanks.

I can't imagine not driving anywhere. Besides, I wouldn't have my career if it weren't for this license.

When you move out of home and get a girl and you have to get $200 worth of groceries every week you'll probably need a car. And when it rains or snows at like 5 degrees (celcius) and you're riding your bike... you'll be squealin'...

Texas is the second most boring state Ive driven through. That might explain your disenchantment with driving. And yeah when you're supporting your self a car becomes really important.

you may not depend on one now, but should probaby atleast get a licence when you can, and eventually you'll find the need for a car.

I'll give you a break cause you're not from the US. But houston doesn't get below 300F

But as of for the next 4 years, I don't think I need a car. They're to much $$$.

Yes. It was flatlands, and then we hit an area like austin, then flatlands, then hilly. It was pretty lame, and my mom bitched at me the whole time.

europeans have no problems with it,but american cities are generally built for the car.....here there is a big push for some kind of light rail/rapid transit corridors, but given that the town is spread out over a huge area considering the relatively small population i don't see it working.....

i see a lot of folks pulling trailers on their bicycles that can take care of most of their needs, but if you start gigging,a bass rig, instruments, etc. might be a tad much....

We are a pretty spread out city, compared to say new york. Public transit doesn't get me everywhere, but it does get me to the places I really need to get to.

Driving in Houston sucks, no disagreement there. However, very little of the city is actually accessible by public transport. Chances are without a car you won't be able to get any sort of a job. Yes, driving can be very boring, especially in Houston and on big Texas highways. (I-10, 290, 59, 45, etc) but Texas has some really fun roads for driving once you're out of the cities.

with the money saved from no car, you can afford to court a lot more tail....
but i'd still get the license,
just to keep options open.

If you can get by without using a car, by all means continue. They're expensive, they're unhealthy for you physically, and they're bad for the environment.

Once people get used to the convenience of having a car of their own it's much harder to shake it.

Yeah, this is true. I mean, why should I get all sweaty and stanky and improve the shape of my legs when I can hop in my car-that-is-powered-by-an-airplane-engine and scoot wherever I need to go?

Plus, I get to scream things at all the hipsters trying to ride their fixed-gears up a hill...
