I got a speeding ticket on Sunday on my way to church (of all things) and it's automatically a class 1 misdemeanor that could mean jail time, a suspended license and/or up to a $2500 fine. No prior offenses. Would you recommend hiring an attorney?

Even in Singapore speeding isn't ticketed that badly, and we have a $500 fine for eating in public transport!

5-10 over I would just show up to court.
If you got a reckless and the cop got a recorded reading. Lawyer or not, you probably won't get much help with the new aggressive driver laws around the DC area. |

You don't really need a lawyer, on my big ticket I just called up the prosecuting attorney and said that I wanted to make a deal. He offered me less money and less points. Worked out great, but I have no idea if that would work for you.

If I so much as get a speeding ticket (doesn't matter the speed), my license will be suspended for 30 days. Only because I am under 21, I have had my full license for 2 1/2 years. We have some of the strictest rules for driving in NA in Ontario.

lowsound | Ya, the news laws are really strict, eh? luckily I got my speeding ticket just a few weeks prior to that. They also don't allow any alcohol tolerance with the "G" under 21 anymore. And we can't carry more than 1 passenger between 16-19. A little overboard maybe?
OP, how fast?

OP, how fast? | I am just as impaired after one beer as a 35 year old is. I am 20, that means that a lot of my friends are still teenagers. I was so pumped when I turned 20, so I wouldn't be associated with the stupid things that teens do just because of my age, now they have nabbed me for another 18 months. BTW it is 21 and under, want to go slap McStupid with me?

Being stupid sucks, lessons are much better learned before the cops get involved. I go to court a week before christmas, hope I'm not spending it in there.

I was probably doing just a tad over 75Mph. Some parts of this highway are 50Mph and other parts are 55.
He didn't come after me. I'm 42.

Take the jail time!! | Then when you get drafted into the military, you'll go straight to the Group W bench, with all the mother rapers, father stabbers, and father rapers.
And there on the other side...
In the middle of the other side...
Away from everything else, on the other side...
In parentheses...
Quotated...
Capitol letters...
It said:
("KID! HAVE YOU REHABILITATED YOURSELF?")
I walked up to the sarge and I said "sarge, you've got a lot o' damn gall to ask me if I've rehabilitated myself. I mean.. I mean.. I MEAN! I'm sittin' here on the bench! Sittin here on the Group W bench, and you're asking me if I'm moral enough to join the army and burn women and children's houses and villages after being a litterbug!" |

lowsound | I know, I'm 19 at the moment, 20 in the summer. I was looking forwards to getting my G so that I don't have to worry about getting nabbed the next morning driving home. There goes that for 31 more months. You bet I'm pretty pissed off.

I would plead guilty to speeding, pay the fine, then try to get the speeding ticket off my record.
