What can I do to reduce being steamrolled into becoming one by proxy as well?

Wake up. If you've got a girlfriend, you must be dreaming.

As with most relationship issues, it seems more appropriate to first compile a broad array of opinions from strangers on the internet first.

You guys realize you don't have to do everything your girlfriend does right?

I keep trying to press meat on her, she keeps objecting for moral reasons.

I see... My first post is my opinion, talk to her and try not to make excuses for anything.

Perhaps she just prefers better quality meat?

Don't be a dick. Maybe try being supportive? Just because she doesn't eat meat doesn't mean you can't.

You may want to revise this statement due to the gutter minds of most OT regulars.

True. Does she always cook? Or do you do some of the cooking as well? Make a meal, but leave out the meat on the side. Just add it into only your plate.

I mean, it's a little harder but you don't have to eat the same things she does for dinner. You could cook separate. And while you're at it, give some of her vegetarian dishes a try. Maybe you'll like them. You don't have to become a vegetarian to eat or like vegetarian meals.

You have seen pulp fiction haven't you?

My girlfriend is also vegetarian and that famous quote "My girlfriend is vegetarian, which practically makes me one too." really is hard to avoid. If she really is serious about it you might want to get her some more chopping boards, knives and possibly pots too so she feels more comfortable about preparing food in your kitchen. Keep buying meat for yourself, just don't wave it in her face or try and force her to have some, just respect her choice and make sure she respects yours to eat meat as well.

Asa.

Actually (all double entendres aside) that's her argument. She's currently reading and is convinced that by going vegetarian she can contribute to pressures on the meat industry to reduce cruelty to animals and improve the quality of the meat that does go to market. I am being strong armed into joining her campaign.

Look if your girlfriend wants to not eat meat, that's her choice. And your choice is to eat meat that's your's, whatever you do don't try and press it on each other. You don't need to change every little thing about yourself to make your girlfriend happy. And if you have to change, maybe you need to take a good look at what's going on.

OP:

You really think you may end up a vegetarian? Really? Come on... I dated a veggie once, and it never affected my eating habits. Cook meals that meat can be added into. Just don't add meat into her portion. Or, god forbid, tell her to cook her own vegetarian food. Her decision to go veggie should not impose upon your eating meat. If she argues/debates you into giving up meat, well, you're a pansy.

Was trying for some levity.

We share cooking responsibilities and she'd previously been actively increasing "meatless" meals, but wasn't actually a "vegetarian."

This could force me to reconsider my entire bachelor spawned form of cooking which involves preparing all meals in a single skillet.

So, more work, more respect, less bullying? This sounds like a lose/lose/lose situation for me.
