there was plenty of great music the last 10 years, imo...i don't really understand the mentality that music spanning a whole decade sucks...i rarely listen to the radio except for smooth r&b though, so most of the music i listen to is found with a little bit of effort and luck

Gotta take the good with the bad!
I leave the radio off to compensate.

Personally, I feel that all Rock and Pop stars should have to pass a test before being able to sell a single, or make a video. All they have to do is one single recording session without the aid of digital editing. If they can do it without making the record label bankrupt in billable recording hours they can get a "I don't suck" certificate.

Hey, with the return of Soundgarden and a new album from STP, I've got high hopes for this year.

If you felt that music from the last ten years all sucked then you need to stop listening to the radio or whatever other source that you're getting your music from. That will always suck. Anyone who is willing to explore on his/her own will be rewarded with good music in any given decade.

I'm going to be 42 in 3 months... I've been a musician since 4th grade and have NEVER had trouble finding great new music. I was just viewing my last dozen or so playlists and more than half of the music I've been listening recently was written and recorded in this decade.

Hmmmm.... The Connells, fIREHOSE, REM, The Cure, HSAS, The Firm, David & David, Bob Mould, Peter Gabriel, etc etc etc etc all still get major playlist time in my day to day... all from the 80s.

Heck Yeah, the Hair Metal Has Been tours kinda had their comebacks the last couple years... it's time for some retro grunge comeback action

Some of the best music ever written has been written in the last 10 years. If you think all of the music from the last 10 years sucks, you either need to look harder, or you have no taste in music.

Well, the fact Duran Duran happened in the 80s blows all that out the window.

The 80s still sucked.

Music doesn't magically conform to decades. Decades have absolutely nothing to do with music.

95% of music in any time period will suck. But there is always that 5% that is worthwhile. No one arbitrarily-delineated ten-year period is better than any other.

And Duran Duran has created some brilliant tunes. Not all of their music has been great, but there are very few artists out there that have been around as long as they have who have put out consistently excellent material.
