LONDON, July 7 (UPI) -- Toddlers who say "yuck" when given flavorful foreign food may be exhibiting racist behavior, a British government-sponsored organization says.
The London-based National Children's Bureau released a 366-page guide counseling adults on recognizing racist behavior in young children, The Telegraph reported Monday.
The guide, titled Young Children and Racial Justice, warns adults that babies must also be included in the effort to eliminate racism because they have the ability to "recognize different people in their lives."
The bureau says to be aware of children who "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying "yuck."
"Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships," the guide says.
Staff members are advised not to ignore racist actions and to condemn them when they occur.
I guess if my kid doesn't find escargot appetizing then I should take him in for counseling in order to nip racism in the bud. |

PC has hit a new high. I guess if the kid says yum that could be considered as reverse racism. |

And now, they come in our countries and we shall live like they do. If a kid hates Indonesian food, well he hates it, end of the story. It's not because he's racist, I'm sure the same kid would love fried chicken and waffles....
Anyway, we have to accept them and THEY ALSO HAVE TO ACCEPT US!

This paper is 366 pages, I'm sure it covers a ton of different things. There's a decent chance the newspaper could be mushing two or three very different things together to try and make something out of nothing. Oh, and it's a British paper, which makes this far more likely.
I'll take this bit of sensationalism with a big bag of salt, please.

What if you don't like a food from your own culture? I mean I'm from Australia where we have some of the best beef in the world, and I HATE steak.

(just playing, of course, lest I get tagged as too mean to those who don't like steak or vegetarians)
And, yeah... I'm Armenian but some of the foods my people have are buck nasty. Give me sushi over that. |

Anyway, we have to accept them and THEY ALSO HAVE TO ACCEPT US! | Umm... wow... I hope this isn't serious. Please tell me, what countries have you been visiting that would have you killed for not doing things the same as them? I was in Oman (thats in Arabia) last January where everyone covers their arms, wrists, legs, ankles, and the women cover everything but their eyes. My family and I were walking around in shorts and t-shirts. We never got one dirty look from anyone.
I think you're overreacting a bit. You must respect other peoples cultures when traveling overseas, but you're certainly not going to get killed for doing things differently, unless you're in a very dangerous part of the world. If you travel lots you'll find many countries you visit are just as accepting of your ways as you are theirs.
