Hey want to hear a joke?

A man walks into a bar. His alcoholism is destroying his life, career, and family.

Well, how about this:

Has anyone ever told you that you should cut down on your drinking?
Have you ever been annoyed when someone criticizes your drinking?
Have you ever felt guilty about your drinking?
Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning?

This is the CAGE questionnaire. If you answer yes to two or more of these questions, you likely have a problem. Some more info on your drinking habits might also be helpful. Also remember that the longer you keep this up, the harder it's going to be to quit. You should seek medical help if you do decide to quit, because alcohol withdrawal can kill you.

People tend to think that alcohol isn't that harmful because it's legal, but it's a hard drug - just like cocaine, crystal meth, and heroin. Alcohol probably isn't quite as likely to ruin your life as shooting up, but you should know that in the long term you will likely suffer from liver failure, peripheral neuropathy, malnutrition*, and other major health problems. Do a google image search for ascites if you want to see what this is like.

*Malnutrition is perhpaps one of the lesser discussed complications of alcoholism. It occurs for three reasons. First and foremost, true alcoholics receive most of their calories from alcohol, which isn't very nutritious. Second, alcohol inhibits the intake of many vitamins: for example, B12. Third, alcoholics are somewhat more likely to eat junkfood than to put a great deal of effort into home cooking.

If you'd really rather keep drinking, you should know what the consequences are.

As long as you make sure to have at least a drink every day, it won't have the opportunity to become a habit.

alcoholism isn't impressive buddy. do like the rest of us and hide it from others instead of posting a thread about it.

I'm assuming that you're either 12 years old or just prone to posting nonsense. But just in case you're serious and are one of those types of people that knows their life is headed in the completely wrong direction but doesn't care, here are a couple of suggestions ...

Update your profile so I know where your drunken *ss resides. I don't want to be anywhere near you when you're driving.

Let your family know that you don't give two cr*ps about them or how your alcoholism affects them.

If you have any friends left that aren't alcoholics themselves, tell them to lose your phone number. No normal person wants to deal with a drunk who is locked up.

Let your band mates (if you're actually in any type of band at all) know that you have every intention of screwing up at gigs.

Yeah, this is a great thread .......

you're an idiot. i used to say the same thing, guess what happened. flipped a car 3 times hit a tree and ended in a ditch. luckily it was out in the country at like 1 inthe morning so no one was around. all it takes is one time to F up and kill someone. before that i've been to the point where i had to drive with one eye closed just to see the lines on the road straight, and it was a 30 minute drive, i was lucky then. after the accident (which obviously resulted in a DWI, which cost quite a bit of $$) i either always get a buddy to drive me (or if i unexpectedly end up at a bar and get tipsy) i have people i know i can trust to come get me.

i mean, obviously its super cool to go to mandatory substance abuse meetings and stuff like that too. where you lose YOUR time that you could be spending with your family and friends.

but if you're anything like me you probably won't learn your lesson until your getting your photo taken down at the local police or sheriffs department with all the other crazy people that get arrested early in the morning. your call buddy.
