So this is what our world has come to...

No Person Got Shot, Stabbed, Slashed, or Murdered in NYC Monday

http://news.yahoo.com/no-person-got-...153318577.html

I mean, It is nice to hear that but when it becomes headline news it really makes one wonder......

How about The Daily News then
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/...icle-1.1209204

It is all over the internet.

I know it isn't as controversial as some dirt bag thief being choked to death by a moron security guard but I find it interesting.....

Interesting indeed.

There was a write up in the local paper today about Nov. 7 2000, there were zero traffic deaths on Texas roads.

It does seem shocking at first until you realize that the city of New York has a large population than all but 11 states in the country. Let that sink in for a minute. There are more people in the proximity of one city than in nearly 4/5 of the states in the country.

Exactly. If my memory serves, there are over 15 million people living in NYC. That means that one out of every twenty North Americans lives in this tiny little space. When you have so many people piled on top of each other, crime is nearly inevitable, and a day without crime is a day to celebrate. I know I will go looting tonight!

Reminds me of when I moved from a small town in Arkansas to the Dallas / Fort Worth area. My first day there, on the commute home, I was listening to the radio and I hear about all sorts of mayhem: a police chase, a fire somewhere, a car drove off a bridge onto the freeway below, a semi overturned, another car crashed through a fence, etc, etc. Made me wonder what I gotten in to. Then I realized the DFW area is about double the population of the entire state of Arkansas.

This is what I like to see in the news. People are forever focusing on the negatives, for once I'd like to see some positive news stories.

"And today approximately 15 million Australians drove to work today without having an accident, went about their daily lives and came home to their families in one piece, concluding another lovely sunny day."

The New York Metropolitan area has a population of over 22 million, a little more than the entire population of Australia.

But it occupies 30 odd thousand square kilometers, as opposed to over 7 million. So you have the entire population of this country living in approximately 0.004% of the area, over 25700% percent the population density. Never ceases to amaze me you can have that many people living in a tiny little area, I know people who own cattle stations larger than 30 thousand square kilometers.

Doesn't really count when you think what percentage of this country is uninhabitable desert though

"Today, a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration – that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we're the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

It's funny, this comes into play when I describe how Iraq and Afghanistan are. Everyone always asks if it's really that bad. I usually reply that it's no worse, or its better than any given day in the US. It's just that the media focuses on the negative things and never the positive things ISAF, UN and the US have done over there.

Why ever would you be thinking of tired old jokes from 1996?
