So what is there to do in Indy?

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, a lady friend of mine and I discussed me visiting her when I go on leave in July. WOOHOOO!! I've been waiting to get into these pants for a while!! J/k!

We've been talking online for years, long story, but to actually get to hang with her in person is a big wish of mine. I was planning on bringing her out to Hawaii when I redeploy, but she wouldn't mind seeing me sooner at all.

So...what is there to do in Indy? She's a local but...I don't need to seem clueless, ya know?

And JIC, anything a single dude can enjoy more than just the local bar scene.

Also, how non-car-owner friendly is the city? I can rent a car with some companies, but it's expensive as hell since I'm not 25 yet.

NEwayz, thanks a bunch!

Peace,
Greg

Music. Check out what shows are playing at the Murat, Vogue, The Emerson (sometimes some decent bands come through), Deer Creek or whatever they are calling it now. Also, the Slippery Noodle Inn is a great blues bar I really love.

Arts and Museums/Monuments. The Eiteljorg, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Indiana State Museum, The War Memorial (a favorite of mine), Monument Circle (the heart of Indy!), the Indy Zoo (one of the best in the nation), and I'm sure there are others I have forgotten.

Do you like racing? The Indy 500 track/museum, Indianapolis Raceway Park (heard they renamed it though?), the Speedrome, and countless other smaller 1/4, 1/8th mile drag strips and circle track venues nearby.

Food. I recommend St. Elmo's Steak House and Shapiro's Deli.

Hopefully those will give you something to look in to. It has been a while since I lived there but it is the city I will always call home.

That would be the Indianapolis 500 race! It is always in May.

Man, I miss the month of May in Indy. Especially before the IRL. The night before the race, the infield during the race, the girls, food, racing...ah, good times. (sigh)

I spent several days in Indianapolis a few years back, and I recommend two places already mentioned.

Most definitly go to the Slippery Noodle. It is the oldest bar in Indiana, and has live blues every night!! I saw some pretty good bands there.

Also, the museum at the speedway is awesome. Some of the finest racing machines you will see anywhere, and lots of them. Plus, they will drive you around the track in a bus, and it is just incredible how big that place is.

Have fun. I had no idea of how great the place was.

Mmmmm...Live blues. Slippery Noodle, check!!

Dunno if the girlfriend is up for the speedway museum, she's not into cars much. But it will get mentioned.

Thanks again for the info.

Peace,
Greg
