I'm in Wisconsin right now, and its gun deer season. I haven't gotten one yet, but my dad got a decent sized doe. Man is she tasty! I still have all week though, I'm crossing my fingers.
Anyone else participating in this hunting season? |

| | | | I am, and if the rest of the season goes like last year, I won't see a thing. |

The weekend before last I didn't see any shootable bucks but I did get within ten yards of some hogs with my knife. Crawled on my belly but then I ran out of cover.

| | | | Yup, thats how last year was for me too. But when you actually get one, it completely makes up for freezing your ass off all week. Luckily the winter has been really mild so far. Usually I wear overalls and my jacket out hunting, but its been warm enough where I only need my jacket.
My dad's deer was pretty exciting for me. I about to climb down from the stand (the sun had just set) and head for the truck when I heard my dad shoot. So I found him in the woods, and we had to track down his deer. The indian tracker inside of me came to life. I tracked the blood trail several hundred yards in the dark with nothing but a little maglite. I also completely stained my white gym shoes with blood while we field dressed it and dragged it to the truck (forgot to wear my boots).
I'm having a good time this year so far. |

I played friday and saturday of opening weekend, played friday last weekend, and all our paid time off at work is suspended.
So Thanksgiving day will be my first day out - although I did get two deer during early antlerless season.

Sounds like some serious hang time for a deer!

I'm the only person in my family that drives and hasn't hit one yet.

But hunting serves its purpose. I'm sure I'll score some venison sausage from one of my friends, maybe even some butterfly breakfast steaks. |

My wife has hit one, my mother-in-law has hit two, my mother has hit two, my sister has hit one, my dad has hit 4 or 5, my stepdad has hit a couple...
Now - I've come close to hitting one probably a good 100 times though, including almost hitting a herd of ~25 standing in the middle of the road around a blind corner once.
