So who's deer hunting right now?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in Wisconsin right now, and its gun deer season. I haven't gotten one yet, but my dad got a decent sized doe. Man is she tasty! I still have all week though, I'm crossing my fingers.

Anyone else participating in this hunting season?

I am, and if the rest of the season goes like last year, I won't see a thing.

Went the weekend before last and I'll be hunting every day from Wednesday through Sunday. I don't get to hunt as much now that I have a kid.

The weekend before last I didn't see any shootable bucks but I did get within ten yards of some hogs with my knife. Crawled on my belly but then I ran out of cover.

Yup, thats how last year was for me too. But when you actually get one, it completely makes up for freezing your ass off all week. Luckily the winter has been really mild so far. Usually I wear overalls and my jacket out hunting, but its been warm enough where I only need my jacket.

My dad's deer was pretty exciting for me. I about to climb down from the stand (the sun had just set) and head for the truck when I heard my dad shoot. So I found him in the woods, and we had to track down his deer. The indian tracker inside of me came to life. I tracked the blood trail several hundred yards in the dark with nothing but a little maglite. I also completely stained my white gym shoes with blood while we field dressed it and dragged it to the truck (forgot to wear my boots).

I'm having a good time this year so far.

I haven't hunted since my Dad quit several years ago. It just wasn't fun without him. I do miss the excitement of having a deer walk up to your stand...but I don't miss the field dressing.

I had to sit this one out. Every year I yell at the drummer for booking gigs during deer season, and this year was the worst ever as far as scheduling goes.

Yep... I played friday and saturday of opening weekend, played friday last weekend, and all our paid time off at work is suspended.

So Thanksgiving day will be my first day out - although I did get two deer during early antlerless season.

My drummers girlfriend got a deer in just this fashion a couple of weeks ago. She must have been cruising when she hit it, because she said a second or two after she stopped the car after impact, the deer came down with a thump right next to the drivers side of her car. Sounds like some serious hang time for a deer!

I think that is the easy way to get them... I mean, I'm the only hunter in my family - but they've killed lots of deer with autos.

I'm the only person in my family that drives and hasn't hit one yet.

I used to go. Not anymore. Got better things to do than freeze my arse off in the woods. But hunting serves its purpose. I'm sure I'll score some venison sausage from one of my friends, maybe even some butterfly breakfast steaks.

Well, I have been saying that for about 15 years now - and I still haven't hit one.

My wife has hit one, my mother-in-law has hit two, my mother has hit two, my sister has hit one, my dad has hit 4 or 5, my stepdad has hit a couple...

Now - I've come close to hitting one probably a good 100 times though, including almost hitting a herd of ~25 standing in the middle of the road around a blind corner once.
