So who's good with mobile phones then?

I have a question, and it might be a stupid one.

My old Nokia is finally on its last legs (it's one of those crazy ones that raves whenever you ring someone/get any phone calls, great for band prac/gigs when you can't hear it ringing!) and I want to get something new.

the criteria? has to be cheapish, vaguely slim, has to have at least 10mb of memory...
...but most importantly...
it *HAS* to have a ringtone composer.

yaknow, one of those nice smooth looking programs, that lets you layer drums, bass, guitar, keys... so I can write that number one single I've been chasing when I'm being driven to Cardiff or something.

Problem being, most of my mates who are fairly mobile-savvy find the concept of a ringtone composer to elude them; "but can't you just like... download an mp3 or something? it's much easier "

so I'm clueless here. any help on any model suggestions would be much appreciate ta!

You might give www.howardforums.com a shot. It's a mobile phone forum with a bunch of knowledgeable people. Good Luck!

Do they really have that on a phone?

I just got the new EnV2 and it's pretty nice. The camera is great, and I've already downloaded some tunes, but I thought it would be really cool to be able to have your own tunes on it. But I have no idea how you would do that.

If you're trying to compose a good song with a Ringtone composer you've already failed.

+1. Most phones ringtone composers are horrible. You can't really choose your own notes. They have a set of pre-fabricated grooves that you can select. Plus, they sound plastic-ish.

Use guitarpro or a similar programme on a laptop instead. Transfer it into an mp3 and you can upload it into your phone.

I'm telling you this because my phone has a ringtone composer. I'm using a Sony Ericsson K800i.

My girlfriend's phone has a ringtone composer and it actually sounds really good. Plus, it's really easy to use. I started playing with it one night and composed my very own ringtone, to be used for my calls to her...and it sounded pretty awesome. But I can't remember what kind of phone it is. So...I am no help to you at all. Sorry...

My experiences with composer programs for phones have been very poor. I suspect you'd be ahead to compose outside the phone and import the file.
