I know the link is to the Daily Mail, but it is also mentioned on a few other sites. If this is indeed true, it is yet another blow to my (admittedly long gone) faith in humanity.

i wonder if there is some previous trauma that led to this guy's behavior. it wouldn't excuse it in the least, i'm just trying to wrap my head around someone doing something that crazy to another person, let alone their own child.

I can't even respond. My daughter is 4. It makes me sick. Obviously there is some sort of post stress thing going on - at least I hope so. I hear these stories and I look at my daughter and try to imagine drowning her, hitting her, whatever. I almost vomit thinking about it. Find a nice family/couple that's looking to adopt. She deserves better.

If this is true, than this guy has some very serious issues, some that were likely started long before he was in the US military.
What a g-damned animal.

Don't lose your faith in humanity over this. That's just a massive case of PTSD run wild. Expect to see lot's more similarly tragic consequences of soldiers non-visible wounds caused by being asked to be in that type of environment for that extended period of time.

Statistically, the ratio of combat time to rest time and duration of time spent in that environment far surpasses any conflict environment that the US or any other forces have ever had to deal with. Psychologically, it's completely uncharted territory.

The ripple effect will continue to claim victims in an ever widening circle for quite some time. The casualties of war extend far beyond the battlefield.

Lose your faith in humanity when society ceases to seek out and provide all the avenues of treatment available at any expense to identify, support and heal ALL the casualties of war. We have plenty of room for improvement toward that goal.

IMHO

When I read "waterboard" I though he was riding a board behind a speed boat and his daughter was somewhat tied to him.I though "what kind of a sick ******* is that?"

But WATERBOARD???To your own 4 year old daughter...I feel bad for both of them, poor girl...

The man must have some serious issues,he's very sick and must be treated or put out of his misery...

Do people still think war doesn't mess with a soldier's head?

We don't have nearly enough help for those guys who get messed up by their service, either while they're active or afterward. Things like this are, IMO, unavoidable until that changes.

Oh I definitely agree that servicemen and women coming back should get as much care and help as they need, they deserve it.
But I just want to also caution that not every serviceman that's served their country is going to come home a raving lunatic... (not that I'm not claiming that's what you're saying) I just don't want to see servicemen and women as a whole bashed because of one particular freak.

It's just my personal opinion that this guy very likely had a few loose screws right from the get go.

Ok, I gotta say something on this. I'm in Iraq for my third tour, and I'm not some camera man or cook, I'm Infantry. PTSD is, generally, a cop-out. I have met WAY more people who joined the Army with some serious issues than people who have developed serious issues through PTSD. Anyone who's been in combat has PTSD to a degree, but it's not something that would cause someone to waterboard a child. When there's a loud crashing/banding/sudden sound, I'll admit I jump and maybe twitch a little, but that's about it. The worst I've seen are people who get violent or turn feeble in these situations, but it comes and goes quickly. Don't give this guy the benefit of blaming PTSD or combat; he's just a sicko.

I understand that some others have stated this using other words and phrasing, and they're absolutely right.

I would expect that most child abusers have never served their country or community in any capacity.
