Some anxiety questions

Sign in to disble this ad
I have had some attacks of anxiety lately, and they're getting to the point that I can't even interact with other people. They're bringing on nausea and dizziness, and I'm not even sure what is causing them. Is there anyone here who can shed some light on this, or suggest any remedies? I think I have schizoid personality disorder, could that be a cause?

thanks

Yeah, I know. I have an appointment in a week, but I wanted to know if there were any other remedies that don't require a doctor.

please talk to a therapist or psychiatrist before diagnosing yourself with mental illness. Everyone gets anxious, some more than others, but you will be ok. Please get some help & don't rely too much on the internet for your mental health needs.

Several things. It could be something like a chemical imbalance in your body or it could even be your diet. If you drink a lot of caffeine, that can cause it. Same with if you eat stuff with a lot of sugar. Take that stuff out of your diet and within days the attacks should cease.

Thanks. I must admit, I am a big caffeine drinker. I don't eat much sugar, though.

I'm a big caffine drinker, and I'll start up a conversation with just about anyone.

I used to be really quiet, then I kinda forced myself to interact. Usually people will pick up the ball and run with it, not letting you get a word in edgewise.

Outside of that, might be chemical related. Might wanna nab some Xanax.

Cut out any achahol, drugs & caffine. That will help, balance your brains chemestry & it takes a while to clean your system out. Definately see a doctor.

Bad idea, in your case in particular. If you suspect you may have BPD or schizophrenia the last thing you need to do is go putting extra psycho-active chemicals in your body.

That includes but is not limited to: recreational drugs, alcohol, & caffeine.

As was previously mentioned, exercise will help naturally regulate your brain chemistry and restore some balance. It's also a natural stress reliever.

Of course, all of this is just stop-gap measures until you can see a professional and develop a treatment plan.

Good luck.

I've been battling anxiety my whole life and I can tell you it has been a horrid road. Deep breaths and good thoughts are a quick fix but sometimes talking with a doctor is the correct method.

Do NOT go self-diagnosing yourself with personality disorders. DO go see a doctor if this is interfering with your ability to function. Do NOT go smoking pot or drinking on the theory that this will make anything better. DO cut back on caffeine and any other stimulants.

Make sure you're eating healthy and getting enough sleep. If social situations are causing you difficulty, try easing yourself into them by having a friend or family member along to be a familiar "anchor" for you. Give yourself some time each day to do things that relax you, like exercise, going for a walk, meditation/prayer, or playing music. Mark that time in your calendar and don't let other things squeeze it out.

When you talk with a doctor, they may recommend a prescription anti-anxiety drug. One word about these, in case your doctor doesn't mention it; like cold medicines, they alleviate the symptoms, not the cause, of your anxiety. Treat the prescription as a temporary measure, to clear your head while you develop the skills you'll need to cope without them. Start seeing a therapist to identify the causes of your anxiety and develop coping skills.

Plus many of the more popular anxiety meds (benzodiazepines) have addiction potential.
