Hi Guys - I am a guitarist but have played and loved bass for many years. I came to this forum from The Gear Page for the more specialized info bassists need, and I have always gotten good usable information.
Every group has its own dynamic and I have observed that TB has a few quirks I have noted. I mention these only because I am curious as to why these quirks are here...
1. What's up with the multi-page "Official" Bass or Amp Club threads? I have never visited this site when two or more of these threads weren't active.
2. The threads disappear quickly! Except for the Official Club threads.
So, any ideas why this happens? Not being critical, just an amateur anthropologist. |

I highly doubt most people here have the authority to create an offically branded club. These people just want everyone else to get the impression that "THIS IS THE ABC CLUB, NO NEED TO START ANOTHER THREAD".
Threads dont disappear quickly if they get a lot of traffic. Once a post is made in a thread, that thread gets bumped to the top of the list. If a thread has no activity it slowly moves to the back of the bus, until it reaches the depths of hell incarnate. Then it gets necro'd.

So, any ideas why this happens? Not being critical, just an amateur anthropologist. | there's nothing official about the official clubs. they're just like-minded people who dig a particular product and share info about it.
and the threads disappear at talkbass quickly because talkbass is very busy, and very big. ~1200 threads get started or posted in every 24 hours here at tb. we have 140,000 registered members, and a large percentage of them are pretty active.
with that kind of traffic, things don't stay on the front page for long.

with that kind of traffic, things don't stay on the front page for long. | But then comes along someone upset about a question thread who screams: YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE A SEARCH!!!!!!!!!
That will slow down the frenetic pace, what? And hey, hey, if we all do that, then there may be NO threads posted anymore cuz just about everything (within the rules) that can be asked HAS BEEN.
Then TB would eventually fade away, we all go to another bass site where someone can ask a question or bring up a subject (which are actually JUST GOOD REMINDERS OF THINGS WE FIND OF INTEREST) without being told to (in so many words) STFU and research earlier threads.
The math works don't you agree?
Which begs the question: What is the best math for metal? Or has that already been asked.....sorry.

The math works don't you agree? | our traffic has steadily increased, i can't see anyone's posts or huff-induced exit changing that. Quote:

Nothing wrong with these club threads (I am proud to be a Warwick and NS Design owner) - I just don't find much discussion or interesting comment in them most of the time. I admit I have not waded through a lot of them, however.
The fast pace has it's advantages, I suppose for the regular daily visitors. Just a little too fast for my once or twice a week habit. |

Lots of people are looking for social contact through forums, and it's always exciting, in a modest way, when your thread stimulates some banter. |

Which begs the question: What is the best math for metal? Or has that already been asked.....sorry. | I find it just as interesting that when some do a search and bring a thread back from the dead, then it is ultimately labeled a "zombie thread".
The best math for metal definitely involves an abacus, slide rule and a log table. |
