Hi,
my name is Alessio and I live in Italy, I'm a (nearly) bass player and a (nearly) luthier. I will be in New York for one month (in July) and I'm looking for:
- experiences music related (play around, lessons, so on),
- experiences as luthier,
- accomodation for me and my wife.
The last thing I've wrote is becoming a bit pressing, I've found some solution on craigslist but no one responded on my questions and I can't post a request because a USA cell phone is needed.
I'm here to ask you a suggestion. Thanks in advance |

NYC has a lot of venues so you need to narrow it down a bit, jazz, funk, rock? As far as any kind of luthiers, most of them are pretty busy, are you looking for training or just to visit a working Luthier's shop?
Accommodations in NY are expensive, I perused the site that brandau recommended and don't think you'll find much cheaper deals than some of those. I hope you both enjoy NY! |

| | | Thank you, brandau, thank you JmJ. I'll take a look in this web site as soon as possible.
JmJ, I like music ... all kinds of music ... not so much the metal and the music too confusing, really. I am interested to find not only good music to listen live, but also people willing to teach me something, especially to give me something to grow as a bass player or as a composer.
About luthiering, I'm looking for both, visit and working, I'll come to NYC also as a tourist, not for work only
God bless you! |

Blue Rooster Pie is a cool blues band that usually performs at P&G bar on Fridays near the uptown Shake Shack (no cover charge BLUE ROOSTER PIE | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos ) As always yelp.com is a great resource for restaurants and other businesses. Bleeker Street in the West Village is a great street for music, maybe ten live music venues thereabouts. I don't have any tips for luthiers, I've been to the Fodera shop for business and they've always been too busy to give me a proper tour, but it's worth a phone call especially if you can be flexible with the time you want to visit. When you get to NYC look on the street corners for the free news paper "the Village Voice" it will have many listings for live music and other things to do in the city (also available online: villagevoice.com ) On Craigslist.com you may find some decent instructors in the "musicians" section. If you need any more advice feel free to PM me. New York is a one of a kind city, I hope you both have a great time! |

Nino lives about 20 minutes from me by car out in Staten Island. I'm pretty sure he works out of his house though.
Might want to hit up Roger Sadowsky as well. He's got a shop in Brooklyn.
