Something cool ive seen in another forum.

I started posting at another forum, a spanish one, so i could sell locally, but over there they have a points system, you get points for posting usefull info, reporting bugs, trolls, misbehavior, etc. also from other users thanks and from thanking other users.

But the cool thing about that is that with said points ppl get raffle numbers (a limited amount of 5 per user) and the prizes are either guitars or basses, fx pedals...

Wouldnt it be awesome to get the same system over here? I think that it would help controlling the forum users urges to troll.

Imagine the rpizes dont even have to be expensive, how cool would it be to get a CV squiere P bass?

I like that system a lot.

a) this will get directed to the "suggestion" forum
b) it has been mentioed before and the i believe the concern is that it would turn into a popularity contest.

My opinion? People should want to post helpful info regardless of the incentives. If they've got nothing to offer on a particular piece of gear(happens to me all the time), then so be it. Aside from that, "useful" advice can have a variety of definitions (ever entered a cabinet design thread?). For example: recently it was decided that the posts in OT shouldn't count because they are less valuable to the some felt that they should still be counted...and they are. I now return you to your regularly scheduled "Product X rocks and this is why!!!" thread...to be followed shortly by a for sale thread for the same item.

Mike

The pointing system is more complex than the hint i have posted. Popularity contest, well i dont see any harm if you get popular by being helpfull.

being serious, the auction/raffle thing is cool but in reality, people here seem to donate stuff to one another or to deserving causes quite a lot, i've noticed

...so maybe we're doing ok!

One uninformed man's "helpful" is another informed guy's "perpetuating inaccurate information". Each to his own.

The step ladder of knowledge that goes straight to the pure truth is yet to be built.

Who's pocket would that come out of...those of supporting members no doubt (a membership btw comes with a free gift...the little stethoscope amp I got for it was pretty cool...used it to play the blues in a parking lot for 2 hours when my car broke down once).

So yeah I vote no. "free" gifts come from somewhere.

On the other forum the prizes are donated by brands or stores that want to give their products some publicity.
