...it's one of the most literate bunches I've ever seen.
I really appreciate that you all can type legibly and responsibly without saturating your posts with l337speak, OMG!!s, would of's and shizzles.
Mostly I appreciate that you can spell correctly, or at least make use of the spell checker.
There's a whole lot of smart people on this forum.
Must be a bass thing

| | Friends, Romans, Bass Players... | | Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Spencer, MA, USA | | I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that in order to play an instrument well, whether it's bass, guitar, or whatever, you need talent, dedication, hard work, and to a large degree disposible income. The first three qualities that I mentioned carry over to the real world, in terms of getting an education, holding a job, etc., which can translate into that disposible income necessary to purchase the things needed to make music. This tends to make a person serious and focused, which also tends to come out here and on other like-minded forums, such as the FDP forum. Ditzy, airheaded kids, while they may have these qualities, bury them in order to appear cool to their circle of friends, discussing the latest Rebecca Black videos on Twitter with a bunch of OMGs and LOLs thrown in for good measure. They wouldn't last long here, the level of seriousness and intelligence here would be too much for them.
IMHO, and YMMV!

While I know what most of them mean, there are a few that I haven't figured out yet. But yes, for the most part the english and grammatical skills here are above the standard of most internet users, something an english nazi like myself appreciates. I have trouble talking to my friends on facebook as their typing skills are sub-par, it has gotten to the point where I don't bother talking to some friends as it is hard to read what they have written.
Cheers,
Jordan

IMHO, and YMMV! | +1 I think you may be on to something here, but at the same time if you ever view other music forums you'll quickly realize that not all of them are nearly as well-spoken as ours. I guess that's just one of the many things that makes Talkbass such a special thing on the internet |

I've read posts here and elsewhere stating how such-and-such forum is really lousy, not just in form but in content as well. We're actually very fortunate here at TB to have such an intelligent and literate membership.

Webster's has revised the dictionary to include most of the new web/text speak. even the word "sup" made the cut! eventually our language will morph into multi-lingual slang and some literature will reflex it.
inner city schools are about to throw in the towel.
