It referes on a guitar player but suits on bass players too.

tone is a debatable thing. Some people think equipment is the origin of his tone...when it's actually his picking attack/angle, natural/artificial harmonics, finger strength, finger coordination, timing, internal rhythm, personal preference of scales/chords/rhythm patterns/chops/licks/riffs/ and style. I have a Mesa 100W head and Ibanez Prestige...I can get it to sound like Dime's guitars & amps, but to get his tone, I have to mimic every subtle nuance of his playing style.

I didn't expect to see all this sarcasm. I thought for sure this thread would be full of the "it's all the hands, gear means nothing" snobbery.

Yes, obviously, technique is important. The right gear helps, too.
