Not cool to go sneaking up on people on the can...especially if you look like a recluse of some kind. Disapprove.

I asked him what species he is but he seems to be taking a little dirt nap right now..

(I titled the album "Chilean Recluse", but I'm really not exactly sure what he is)

Looks an awful lot like the brown recluses we have around here, only that one isn't gray or dust brown colored. I killed one of them when they were on the crapper today.

How big was it?

But if one were to live in Broward, Dade or Palm Beach county, then that thing would never get past the gate guard.

Meh...those lived everywhere in Orlando...what I hated was finding one of THESE in my shoes (which I checked daily after getting zapped by one after not checking):

Damn arachnids.

I had one of these sneak in my bag overnight while I was in Nicaragua. It's a Goliath Bird-Eating Spider. ALWAYS SECURE YOUR GEAR WHILE OUT IN THE FIELD IN CENTRAL AMERICA!

Southern Georgia - 2 years ago - 1st one I ever found (or it found me).

This one stung me on the tricep when I stretched in my recliner.

Other than the creep factor, I've had worse ant and wasp stings.

Yup, looks like the same species we had in Orlando, the Florida scorpion (c. hentzi). Creepy little buggers, but nothing to freak out over from the sting. Fire ants bugged me more....but getting up in the morning and putting your kicks on, and having one hit your foot, not cool...

He was about 1.2 inches or so.

Yeah, I have found a scorpion just like that one in this thread in my carport before, too.

And I want to get into landscaping, haha.

I refuse to believe this is real. If I saw that in my stuff while I was there, I would probably kill myself.

Even more of a reason for me to hate Florida (just the thought of living there) haha

I really wish we had a bug identification thread on TB where experts from the field of entomology could help identify bugs from pics we post. I'd have so much to ask!

I'm yet to have ran into a wild scorpion here, but I've seen enough widows and recluses in my life to know to stay away from them.

We've got bats out in the shed that I've convinced people to leave there. Those things are destroying the mosquito population and keeping spiders and the like away from the house. Funny how a few martins and bats can keep a house and yard bug free.

Thanks to our harsh climate here in Alberta (yay...30C (86F) in the summer and -40C (...-40F) in the winter), we don't have nasty arachnids like that.

No poisonous anything, if I'm not mistaken. Just gross zebra spiders, huge *** orb weavers, et cetera...

*Obligatory Australian post about spiders and how much bigger they are here.

Yeah. I'll happily deal with bats for that trade-off. It's one of reasons why seeing Mud Dauber Wasp nests around the yard makes me smile. Their normal lunch menu is dangerous spiders, like the black widow.

My wife was unknowingly bitten on the ankle by a brown recluse two weeks ago. After three - four days it looked like someone had put out a cigarette on her skin. Antibiotics fixed her up in a few days, but it is slow to heal and there will definitely be a scar.

There's a website called whatsthatbug dot com that does a very good job, and responds quickly if you provide them proper information.

There was other stuff in there. That was just the biggest thing. There were a few scorpions, some red ants, and some crazy looking beetles too. It gets cold at night during the January dry season so they were looking for warmth.

And dragonflies. They're ninja-insects. Carnivorous, hungry, ninja-insects.
