Question Songs disappearing from iPod

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everybody.

Well, this is a very strange thing: I selected an album from my iPod's cover flow, and a completely different one started playing. After checking with Winamp, the album, artist and song names were still there, but they were pointing to a different album. Checked in iTunes and same thing happened, but when I selected those missing songs there, the real names, artist and album appered, and they became duplicated tracks. Closed iTunes, opened Winamp again, and ran the "complete database cleaning" utility. When finished, it created a playlist called "Lost + found" with 54 items. Besides, some albums are completely gone!

Does anybody know what happened? And even more important: Is there a way to prevent this from happening in the future? I'm completely puzzled. Thank you in advance for your help!

I don't know what happened, but this happened to me as well. I ended up deleting my library and importing all my music from my iPod to my computer (for other reasons), and songs that were completely gone or simply did not play appeared in my itunes library again.

Not a very practical fix, but it worked for me.

Sounds like you have Itunes set to automatically update the information for your ID3 tags, or the tag info from each song. If you go to the options dialog, and the (I think) importing tag, turn of "let Itunes organize or update my files" or some such nonsense.
Itunes is great for songs you get from the itunes store, but I dont really like it for organizing my MP3s... Same thing happened to me once...

Call pest control. It sounds to me like you have a case of elves stealing your music!

Mine didn't want to show any songs by Cream.

I had to create a playlist and import the playlist.

I'd avoid connecting to both iTunes and Winamp to manage your music. I might do one or the other, but not both.

Rebuild the library in program of your choice and replace the iPod library.
