Sorry wrestling...

...looks like you're giving up your spot for Golf now, clearly the most extreme test of physical skill, and worthy of an olympic spot.

That is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Of all the sports and "sports" to consider dropping from the Olympics, I can think of many more deserving targets than wrestling.

(Disclaimer: I was a wrestler in high school.)

Yeah, I saw that, and I was like, what the ...? I understand that not many people watch wrestling, but it seems like such a classic. Along with track & field, it's one of the few things that is essentially unchanged since the ancient Olympics. And, IMHO, it requires a combination of intelligence, skill, strength, and stamina like very few other sports.

Boo.

I think that this is a rediculous decision...the second oldest olympic sport is cut for what? Perhaps its time to get rid of the marathon, javelin and replace them with lawn darts

Seriously!

I may not be into Greco-Roman wrestling, but if there ever were an Olympic sport, surely that would be it.

Golf? Golf is a game, not a sport.

Im glad I dont watch, or care for, the Olympics.

Yeah, because Curling is an extreme test of physical skill.

More so than golf, not to mention it's a team based support that actually has strategy involved in it more than hit my ball closer to the hole with every stroke than the guys I'm playing against.

Also, Golf didn't replace curling, it replaced WRESTLING! Which, in case you're not familiar, has been an Olympic sport since the founding of the Olympics, and is literally thousands of years old.

Not a big fan of the the Olympics in general, but even I don't get this. Wrestlers are some of the toughest, most disciplined hombres I know. It's one of the sports that really does date back to antiquity, and one of the few that hasn't been completely corrupted by corporate commercialism.

I hate to see wrestling gone and it should be added back in. Golf should have never gotten in over Squash.

who said there could only be 25 sports?

if you want golf, fine, just add it...it's not like anything else can be played on a golf course...they don't need the space or anything.

keep 'em both

Ratings. I'm sure it has to do with a couple of things. How many people SHOWED UP to watch wrestling, and how many people watched ON TV? It's really that simple. The Olympics is a business just like everything else. (I mean that literally. It's a business, no matter how many governments are involved. Millions and millions of dollars change hands every time the Olympics come around.) Before reading this, how many of you ever watched, or even cared about the subject of wrestling in the Olympics? Other than the guys who wrestled in high school, nobody. Honestly, I didn't realize wrestling was still IN The Olympics until reading this.

Golf has grown in popularity, and the side show of a soap opera going along with it has only increased it's popularity even that much more. Unless a billionaire wrestler sleeps with 40 women, there's no hope for wrestling as a sport.

As for curling, it has kind of taken on a cult following. There are actually local leagues now.

by that logic, weight lifting and water polo should go too.

Makes absolutely no sense to me either. It's one of the original Olympic sports, since their inception. It is equally relevant today as it was in those days.

To voice your opinion...

I know on Twitter, there's an address: @IOCMedia

There's also a hashtag #SaveOlympicWrestling
