Split Pea Soup!!!

Oh, yeah - you know you want some!!

Been a few years since I tried this. As you can see, the quantity might have snowballed on me. Joy Of Cooking said 2 cups, dried split peas. I don't want to do this every other day, so heck, let's try 5 cups. 3 cups were yellow split peas but it still turned out way green.

I added an onion, couple carrots, celery, some potatoes, bay leaves, thyme, a bit of kosher salt. (Had some broth handy but I "spaced".) That's about it.

Oh, right, of course: HAM.

I'm pretty much set for meals for a week unless I somehow manage to screw this up. (By this stage, I think I'm just about home free.)

Must freeze some for later too.

That looks good. I soak and extra half bag of peas for 24 hours, then puree them. I then add it to the soup and it thickens it without using corn starch, etc.

I'm sorry but it looks like extremely chunky vomit to me

I'm sure it's actually lovely though.

Still setting up. How does this look - any better?

Didn't think so.

It makes lovely fake vomit for movies, pranks & the like. Anybody see The Great Santini?
On topic, it looks great. I want some!

I'm sure yours is good as Split Pea Soup goes, but I can't stand the stuff at all.

In fact, the only enjoyment I ever get out of it is that it reminds me of one of my favorite movies, Strange Brew.

Lawyer: You can't split pleas like that.
Bob: Two bowls of split plea soup to go, eh.

I have not seen that movie yet but I'm a Robert Duvall fan so it's on the list.

Good call on the FV - I'm sure I can spare a cup for that important purpose.
