I have always loved seeing live stand up and finally decided to et a couple of stand up CDs. I bought a bunch of them, but I just wanted to recommend to you guys a couple that are really a step above:
Jesse Joyce - Joyce to the World. www.jessejoyce.com
Greg Giraldo - Good Day to Cross a River
David Cross - Shut Up You ******* Baby
Anyone whose into stand-up will probably know Greg Giraldo and David Cross, but definitely check out Jesse Joyce. Even if he has crazy coke addict eyes, he is a really funny guy and also has done a comedy tour of Iraq for the troops there. There are some cool photos on his myspace www.myspace.com/jessejoyce of the Iraq trip. I heard about him on a podcast I listen to which he is an occasional guest on, but I was really impressed with his stand-up CD, particularly from a guy who isn't "well known".

Bonnie Mcfarlane
Daniel Tosh
Jeff Dunham
Rodney Carrington

EVERYTHING by the incomparable Bill Cosby
EVERYTHING by the inimitable Bob Newhart
That's really all you need; the ones people have recommended here are mostly just potty-mouths who couldn't even hold a candle to Lenny Bruce, and Bruce was, well, just a potty-mouth.
I might grudgingly recommend George Carlin, but only "grudgingly."

Also I love Mitch Hedberg too. Getting to hang out with him for a night after his show at the Punchline is one of my favorite memories. Emo Phillips is a trip.
I'm also partial to Richard Pryor, Stephen Wright, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Izzard, and Redd Fox among many others. I'm a big stand-up comedy fan.
But back to the topic of the thread, if I was to recommend one Bill Hicks CD I'd say "Rant in E Minor". |
