Hey guys, I was wondering if any of the gun owners on this forum knew what the standard issue sidearm is for Canadian LEO and the RCMP...all I can find out is for US LEO (Beretta FTW.)

US Law Enforcement Officers carry a variety of guns. It's based on the department. FWIW I've never seen a US LEO carrying a Beretta but it's standard issue for military. Most LEOs I see are carrying Glocks, Sigs or S&W semi-autos.

I know that the RCMP carries something in 9mm and loads it with Winchester Ranger LEO ammo in 147gr but I'm not sure what model pistol it is.

Thanks, Brad. I was checking out Wiki this morning and found that the Toronto Police Service has a Glock 22 .40 after using S&W for some years as their standard issue, which looks very familiar (eg, I've seen some cops sporting this) so I think the OPP also has them -- or at least, another Glock -- as well.

OPP was carrying Glocks a couple of years ago. I worked in Police Supply. They use to buy plastic (replica) glocks for training, because they weren't allowed to train with the real guns until late in there training.

Smith and Wesson 5946 is standard issue for the RCMP. They also use the 3953 for plainclothes members or people with small hands, though most use the 5946. The main difference is that the 5946 is bigger and holds 15 rounds in the magazine while the 3953 only holds 9.
