Stanton Moore of Galactic

Today drummer Stanton Moore is holding a master class at a friend of mine's drum school here in Pittsburgh.

The kit he'll be playing is my vintage 1981 Gretsch.

Later, my girlfriend and I are going to see him perform with Galactic. This should be a great day.

We set up the kit and the room last night.

Yeah, I know it's a drummer master class, but I thought you guys might get a kick out of it. Any Galactic fans here?

I'll post pics from the class later.

You scared me. I was expecting "Stanton Moore was killed in a car crash.."

Dude's a killer drummer. Theres a great youtube clip of him with leo Nocentelli and my friend Bill Dickens.

I've seen Galactic many times as well as Stanton sitting in w/ Panic and some others. He is extraordinary. I really miss The Houseman w/ Galactic though.

I've seen galactic a bunch of times. They're a ton of fun. That's cool you get to see Stanton play on your kit. Get a pic of it!

Out of all the other instruments besides bass, I would like to say drummers are the most welcome.

Here are some pics as promised.

I had caught him in clinic before and I have to say that it had been my favorite clinic before yesterday.

Imagine sitting in a room with one of your all time favorite musicians and being able to ask him how he does certain things and how he came up with his ideas. That's what it was about.

It was very informal. When you'd ask him a question he would give the history and background and then demonstrate how to do whatever it is you asked about. The explanation and demonstration might take 15 minutes.

He treated everyone in the room like we were 25 of his friends that he was letting in on a secret.

He was unassuming and had no ego at all. He really is a nice guy.

So...

It was a GREAT day, even without factoring in the fact that he was playing on my kit. Which (of course) he made sound better than it ever has before.
