Yeah, I am insanely pumped about this.

Bioware has a basically flawless track record, as far as I am concerned.

Some people are nay-saying with the whole "Well, Bioware has never made an MMO before. What do they possibly know about the genre?"

Yeah, well, neither did Blizzard before it made WoW.

So I have high hopes for this.

You're absolutely right - there isn't a bad BioWare game at all, IMO.

Speaking of other BioWare games, I need to get the new Sonic RPG on DS. I hear it's great (not surprising, given who made it). I loved the original KOTOR and Mass Effect is easily among my all-time favorite games.

But this also begs the question - I had to quit WoW because it was ruining my college and social life. Will I allow it to happen again with Old Republic? .....probably

i play star wars galaxies, and have since launch, and as you can imagine, things are sorta wacked about this.

the only thing i have to say is that the same dudes who cause galaxies to almost completely close down are the producers of this game - the wrecked SWG by trying to make it into a "live -their- experience" instead of the way it was - "live your experience", and it's taken the swg devs a few years to recover.

i'll try it, but i won't necessarily buy it, unless they prove to not be putting out a "guided experience" but rather a real mmo game.

Is it going to be a monthly subscription game? I would really like to play WoW and LOTR Online but there is no way in hell I'm buying a game, and then paying even more just to play it. I wish all the big MMO games would be more like the free ones where they have cash shops and generate money through them, instead of forcing us to pay to play.

All the free ones are crap anyway, Silkroad is full of hackers and all you do is grind, quests are boring as hell. Rappelz is a little better but still lame.

See the reason many of the pay for play ones are so much better is that they're getting money that supports them in supporting and making the game better. Well you really think about it, $15 isn't so bad, that's what maybe an expensive lunch? Most MMO's have time cards now too so you don't have to worry about credit card. Personally I kind of stopped playing wow, but when you really think about it $15 isn't sooooo bad.

Look at games like MapleStory. The world in that game is HUGE and there are thousands of monsters and drops. Plenty of game classes and jobs. And it's all entirely free. That game is funded entirely from the cash shop. Yes it is 2D and wouldn't take as much time to do as a game like WoW. But new stuff comes out for MapleStory ever couple of weeks. It's very possible to make a MMO without needing people to pay subscriptions. Especially with the amount of people that play WoW. Can you imagine the profits they would be making? There is NO way you need that much money to continue to make content.

And $15 for some people might not mean a whole lot, to others it does. Especially students who have fees to pay.

I thought KOTOR was awesome as well, but I have yet to really get into the whole MMO thing and my guess is that even this won't motivate me enough. I doubt anything short of an Elder Scrolls MMO will.

I've successfully avoided the MMO craze up until now. This, though, may be my undoing.

Blizzard is giving a huge lesson to any firm that wants to make a MMO.

If a firm does the opposite of whatever Blizz is doing, they will succeed, big time.

Seriously,Blizzard had the guts to make such an act but was no where smart enough to improve.especially customer support, there's simply none.

And yes,I play wow.
