That's a total apples and oranges comparison. Completely different storylines, and completely different plot elements. (that said, I love my Stargate)

Starship Troopers the novel was great, and Stargate the movie was great. I thought the Starship Troopers movie was mediocre at best.

+1

But the Starship Troopers animated series was much better.

Starship troopers was pretty good for mindless dross

Stargate was great IMO, especially the series. What series without MacGuyver wouldn't be!

Absolutely. Heinlein wrote a wonderful book which explored the responsibility of people to society - and pitched it in a military setting with a great action theme. The movie was OK, but nothing like the book in terms of depth or complexity.

Yeah! And it's the first time I've ever read a science fiction book where the protagonist was filipino! Terrific book.

Ah yes, almost forgot about the Heinlein novel! I have read it, for those that care about such things. Agree, the book definitely had more depth and complexity

I also watched triple x (w/ vin diesel). Definitely a mindless afternoon for me

i enjoyed starship troopers despite liking the book more largely due to the special effects and action. i liked stargate well enough but loved the series (RIP, both of them)

I thought both of those movies were incredibly cheesy. Stargate had a lot of potential but they just cheesed up the characters way too much.

I saw Starship Troopers as a kid and I thought it rocked. Saw it again and it was cheesy, but there was still some good parts. Saw Starship Troopers 2 and I thought this was probably the worst movie made.

I liked the Stargate movie from what I remember (been a 2-3 years since I saw it last) and I loved the series when MacGuyver was still in it.

+1. Stargate was second-rate sci-fi, Starship Troopers was third-rate. So I guess Stargate was better, but it's not a matter of "like" for me.
