sitting in the back of an airplane vs. the front? Is there a particular location of the plane where crash survivors are usually located?

Most planes nose dive don't they? Making the back having the least impact? That's what I would think.

Statistically you are less likely to die in a plane crash than you are to spontaneously combust.

If there is one its by the emergency doors. If you live through the crash most people die of fire or smoke inhalation trying to find a way out because they can't see and get disoriented.

Planes usually break up (or completely disintegrate depending on the speed) in a crash. Its to unpredictable for there to be an advantage sitting in any one location.

like the people in the back of TWA 800 who crash investigators concluded knew of their predicament for quite some time ... put me front and center of the explosion, bomb, crash impact, etc... I wanna go first and quick!!!

You're pretty much more likely to die driving than flying.

If you're a drummer for Spinal Tap. Otherwise, not so much.

think how many deadly car accidents there are every day.
think how many deadly plane crashes there are.

granted, you are more likely to die in a plane that crashes than a car that crashes, but the car is more likely to crash.

Oh, I'm well aware of that. Just having fun with the "spontaneous combustion" comment.

if you are talking large commercial jetliner ala Boeing 777, 787, 737 or Airbus A330, 340, 320 ... the safest place to be in a crash is sitting over the wings

next safest place is back by the tail end of the main cabin

first (front) is the least safest, but it's the most comfy ... and since airliners rarely crash I'll take the risk and claim 4D thank-you

all the best,

R

Who cares, if the crash is big enough you're all going to die anyway.

And don't forget, you can use your seat cushion as a floation device. Assuming you survive the 500 knot impact with the water.

Or you can just take a boat and sail to your destination...

Me, i'd rather crash'n'burn in a plain than drown any day of the week.
