Will somebody give these guys the benefit of the doubt once and for all. We're doing it for ball players and cyclists, why not bodybuilders ?

And even when it comes to having medical documents attesting you need performance enhancing drugs, plenty of crooked doctors and pharmacists ready to go to bat for you, so even then, I take all these stories with a grain of salt BALCO anyone ?
I know what it takes to be a pro athlete, having met many of them throughout the years (mainly in the skiing world) and I very much doubt someone who would NEED performance enhancing drugs to function would make it to the top, wether we're talking bodybuilding, baseball, skiing or even curling.

Going back a few generations, several of the (Hungarian) men in my family were body builders/muscle men way back in the days before it was popular, and before steroids were huge. None of them looked anything like those guys. With a few rare exceptions, I'm fairly certain that it just isn't possible to 'get huge' without steroids. The only really strong guys I know who (so far as I know) never took steroids, are fat. To have a super low body fat percentage AND enormous muscles just isn't possible without steroids. You can come close - you can be fairly ripped and lean - but unless you're one in a million, you'll never look like those guys.
They're also doing a lot of other questionable things to look trimmer, such as (ab)using laxatives and prescription diuretics. That's part of the reason that the veins and muscle contours are so prominent - they're reducing the extracellular fluid volume to 'dry out' the skin. |

Some of the guys that take steroids do have an actual medical reason to take them. Since he retired from competition, he has taken on the job of drug regulation for Archery Canada.
